We have the SMax which easily takes 3 car seats in the back. It's also possible to do with the second (boot) row of seats, but there's less leg room when you do so.

We have a Citroen Xsara Picasso. has not been my favourite car, on balance preferred the Zafiras we had. If you have adults in the back it is really uncomfortable- as there is not enough depth to the floor. Don't really know how to explain it but there does not seem to be a foot well so your knees are quite high. Sit in one and see what I mean!!! One of our sons is over 6 feet tall and he is really uncomfortable. If you need car seats it may be OK.
There is loads of luggage space though- good for family trips/holidays/the uni run.
Also the electronic controls are bonkers. Car stops, apply brake,, open passenger door, car starts back into life and I hate hate hate the electronic parking brake ( And breathe)

What ages are your DC? If you use a buggy, check it fits in the booth with all seats up. Fit all your car seats in to check they fit comfortably. It is worth test driving each before committing to the purchase.

I have a newish smax. It has three full seats in the middle row all with individual isofix (lots of cars share the isofix points for the middle seat). I only use the back row for play dates and even them can get my pushchair behind them.
I have a diesel automatic and it’s super easy to drive - like a go kart compared to dhs Volvo XC90.

ArfArfBarf · 08/01/2019 15:21

If you want to put adults in the third row I think the galaxy might have more legroom there.

ChristmasAccountant · 08/01/2019 15:23

I have a new c4 grand Picasso. 3 isofix points in the middle row, two seats in the boot. Still enough room for a pushchair in the boot with all seats up. Nice to drive too.

Bluebelltulip · 08/01/2019 15:25

I've got a grand c4 Picasso and love it.

This is an eco setting to save fuel. There is a button in you car to disable this feature. It is a star/stop button. It will show you in your car manual how to disable it.

PotteringAlong · 08/01/2019 19:04

I hated the grand Picasso so much I sold it. S max every day of the week.

Daisymay2 · 08/01/2019 19:58

Hearty- yes I know!. But why does the eco setting start the car when the passenger door opens so i can get out?. Also every time you stop the car and restart the blinking thing the Eco resets. Dealer has looked, husband has been through the manual with fine tooth comb. I hate the thing. As soon as Ds leaves uni, it is going . It is c4 not a grand C4 btw.
The other thing I hate is just how complex the electronic controls are. It is illegal to use a phone when driving but changing the temperature or air flow is as dangerous imho (only the passenger does it when we are on a trip).

HeartyLaugh · 08/01/2019 20:43

Daisymay2 Maybe it thinks you have forgotten to switch the ignition off and take the key Grin I think it does it to recharge the battery if on standby for a period of time. It relies on specific car features on a specific setting to work eg. the heater settings, car in N or P.

Daisymay2 · 08/01/2019 21:47

Its a manual, and an all singing and dancing model.
I did wonder whether it was anything to do with being designed as a left hand drive but even so it shouldn't start just because a door opens even if a key ( plus driver) is in the car.
My own car is a little Ford and and much better to drive; it doesn't have the French idiosyncrasies. The Citroen ride is better on country roads though.

Walnutwhipster · 08/01/2019 21:56

The Citroen repair bills were a killer once it was three years old. The C4 grand picasso was lovely to drive but simply wasn't reliable. It was frightening when the engine management system kicked in, ask a mechanic about their reliability.

FraterculaArctica · 08/01/2019 21:59

Following as we are currently decided on one of these (or possibly Renault Grand Scenic) although we don't actually need the 3 seats as only 2 DC. Keeping options open though!

FraterculaArctica · 08/01/2019 22:01

Tax and emissions on C4 (pre April 2017) is massively lower than S max - anyone else taking this into consideration?
