Multiple children and driving

I only have one DC currently but thought this would be the right thread.

My DS is 1.5 years. I'd love to have another one so there can be a close age gap (2.5year), but the biggest thing to tick of my list before DC2 would be to learn to drive, for convenience.

Has anyone experienced having 1+ child close in age and NOT being able to drive? How did you manage??

I think it depends a lot on where you live. Eg. I have 6 DC and we have never had a car. I do have my license but am not a very confident driver, DH same, and it was/is not worth it to have a car for us. However we live in London with (reasonably) good public transport in the area and most services (shops, dentist, schools, etc) close by. I fully understand that it is very different for someone in a more rural area or who cannot use public transport for whatever reason.

We manage by using public transport, when they were little only going to groups which were walking distance/easy bus route. Now they can only go to activities which we can take them to easily (obviously the teens can do whatever) etc. I have also got very good at wrangling a double buggy on the tube. When you don't have a car it doesn't really occur to you to need one - public transport is just your default.

Is there specific examples of scenarios where you think you would struggle?
