Transporting 4 children

Slipp3rs · 14/07/2018 22:38

I have 4 children under 5 year and I have a ford Galaxy.

With pushchairs and stuff it’s not big enough.

How do other people manage? I’ve started to actually look at minibuses Shock

How many pushchairs can you push at once?

SprogletsMum · 14/07/2018 22:43

I've got 4 kids and a Ford focus. Can't fit dp in but I can fit me, all 4 kids, a pram, a weeks shopping and the shit tons of crap they dump in my car too.

Slipp3rs · 14/07/2018 22:45

You can fit 4 car seats? Only one of which is a booster in a Ford Focus?

We had a Zafira and a multipla. You can get three car seats in the back of a multipla, and one in the front. Have the whole boot for pram and dog/shopping, if you use a net to keep everything secure.

The zafira i used with one rear seat up, one down, so that there was a full half an estate boot available.

SprogletsMum · 15/07/2018 01:16

No my oldest is 9 so he doesn't have a seat but I've got 2 high back boosters and an erf seat. Can't afford to insure anything bigger.
I do know a mum with 4 kids and a Micra. She only has 3 car seats in hers too though.

MakeItStopNeville · 15/07/2018 01:21

Chrysler Grand Voyager. Fits everything in easily and isn't "too" big.

SleepWarrior · 15/07/2018 01:27

Kia sedona - plenty of space, 2 proper seats in the back row that can fold down or be removed completely, sliding doors. Great family car.

lljkk · 15/07/2018 06:17

sedona has a turning circle of a small planet (the Voyager is like that, too, and the Voyager is very fuel-hungry).

Soontobemumof4 · 15/07/2018 06:59

We have a Mercedes Vito Van converted with extra seats. It's the extra long wheelbase but the short wheel base would fit the extra seats too.

Choice4567 · 15/07/2018 07:15

Ford S-max with a roof box!

Panicmode1 · 15/07/2018 07:25

VW Sharan and before that a Renault Espace (which was brilliant apart from being unreliable!). Ours are older and we now have a problem with legroom as they are getting to be 6ft plus....

Mindchilder · 15/07/2018 07:32

Zafira - usually have it as two big seats in the middle row, oldest on hbb in the back and other seat down so buggy/shopping can go in. You would only fit a booster cushion in the middle seat of the middle row.
If both boot seats are in use there is very little space left - umbrella fold pushchair only.

happyasasandboy · 15/07/2018 07:45

I only have three kids, but I would keep my SEAT Alhambra if we had four.

The three middle row seats can each take any kind of seat, and I have my youngest ERF in the front seat.

The boot is massive with the rear row folded down, and is still large if you need to use that row (eg if someone else comes with you and the four kids). You can have any combination of the middle and rear seats up/down at any time.

The SEAT Alhambra is identical to the VW Sharan (same design and factory). It is several £k cheaper because it has a SEAT badge instead of a VW badge..

BagelDog · 15/07/2018 07:52

We have four and a seat Alhambra. All the seats are full size isofic seats so we have three in the middle row and one in the back, can have the other back seat folded down and that gives a decent boot. Have a pushchair that folds small, and nets so can stoke other stuff vertically as a lot of the boot volume is in its height iyswim? And a roof box for holidays...
Did look at minibus type vans but our road is single track with an awkward swing into our drive and none of them would actually make the turn. They were lovely esp the ford tourneo, but definitely more money. If we ever move so the road/drive isn’t an issue this is what we hope to get, esp as all four of ours will likely be well over 6ft tall.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 15/07/2018 07:57

Ford S Max definitely. Hired one on holiday and it fitted four adults three teenagers and all of our luggage. Like a Tardis.

Hideandgo · 15/07/2018 08:55

I’ve a Volvo XC90 and it fits everyone. My eldest (5) sits on the built in booster which is handy. And I leave the 7th seat down so still have a big boot.

Slipp3rs · 15/07/2018 08:55

Thanks for the comments. Really helpful xx Smile

Definitely get something with flexible seats. It really makes a difference.

Raver84 · 15/07/2018 10:36

Family of 6 here we have a XC90 perfect size with handy built in booster. Can fit in buggy, bikes and my 2 dogs.

lljkk · 15/07/2018 10:52

Isn't Galaxy basically same car as Sharan & Alhambra? I think I've read that lots of places.

lljkk · 15/07/2018 10:53

: mechanic told me that actually, his wife had a Sharan & mechanic was moaning about how much money he could have saved

ruthieruthuk · 30/08/2018 00:59

We have a Mercedes V class 8 seater minibus, we have 4 children at the moment but we will have 5 in January
