Just wondering if you have an open plan kitchen/ diner and if yes do your kids hang around there instead of the living room watching tv hence you get to spend more quality time together.
We have a type of home where it isn’t really possible to move walls around so have separate kitchen/diner/living room. We have 3 boys (+1on the way) and they spend most of their time in the living room watching TV as I’m in the kitchen most of the time and there isn’t really anything in there for them to sit.
We are on holiday and have a lovely open plan kitchen and so far they have been playing cards games around the kitchen table which means we are all in one place.
I’m interested to know if this is standard with families with open plan or just the novelty and after a while they would slowly move into the living room to watch tv.
Also here there is very limited channels on tv so wondering if that is also a reason they aren’t that interested in the living room?! Hmm

We have a large kitchen diner and 4 teens. They spend all their time in their rooms!😂

😁😁 that doesn’t surprise me and I’m wondering if things are better that way anyway at that age?! However mine are still small 8,6,4 so still have a slight inclination to be with us (I’m sure it won’t last) tho Grin

Yes mine definitely spend more time in the kitchen now it's big enough for a table. Still spend too long in the living room watching TV though...

My three moan that they can’t hear the tv because I make too much noise cooking, I’m selfish like that.

Haha that is hilarious! 😆 it’s exactly how I would imagine our home if it was open plan so I would have to end up finding alternative hiding places 😁

I’m one of 6 and my mum moans that we all follow her into the kitchen and why don’t we bugger off to the living room Grin

Yes I can imagine that being an issue 😀

We have a kitchen diner and family room all open plan which is the whole of the back of the house. I have 4dc and we spend the majority of our time in here. We also have another separate sitting room which is handy if anyone wants to escape like me

We have a kitchen/breakfast room, so we have our breakfast table in there, but none of my six are ever in there when I'm cooking. The younger ones tend to be in the play room, which is just off the kitchen, and my oldest two are usually in their rooms, or sitting in the conservatory (which is also just off the kitchen).

We live in a listed house, so there is no chance of us ever being able to create open plan living, and to be honest I like it how it is any way.

My kitchen is big and has a table big enough For 10/12 children and opens out onto the garden so they are always either in there or in and out of the garden. It's lovely Smile

We never use the dining room, so I turned it into a room for all the cats Grin
