Hello :)
I've (literally) just found out I'm expecting DC5. We are really pleased but I am dreading telling people. How did people respond when you announced your 5+ child? Any good responses to shut people up as it's none of their business? Thanks

I have 5 with massive age gaps due to remarriage and serious illness in between.

Dd five was conceived naturally after chemo and I was 43. She is my husbands on,y child and we were thrilled.

I had many many "you must be mad" s and eventually realised a lot of them were a bit jealous. I used to counteract it by saying "mad? No we are absolutely delighted"

I love being a mum and now at nearly fifty I'm having great fun with my little girl.

Congrats

Aww that's lovely Smile
Mine are 12, 9,7 and 4. My baby is off to full time school and i'm not ready to move on from the baby years yet!

Mine are 27 25 22 19 10 and 8. The last 2 were conceived while hubby was having chemo.

The most popular thing for people to say is
"Don't you have a telly"
My reply of " yes and we watch a lot of porn" seems to shut them up or stop them in their tracks.

EwanWhosearmy · 22/07/2016 16:20

Ours are 30, 28, 26, 24 and 9.

We didn't really get many comments with the last one from people we knew. We are often asked if she's our only, by people who don't know us from before. I tell them she's the last of many Grin

On hearing how big the gap is, a lot of people assume it's a second relationship (it isn't; same parents for all 5).

imip · 23/07/2016 22:47

I have 9, 8, 6 and 4yo dds. I always get comments on gender - it's never kind, more a 'poor dh' kind of thing. It does wear me down and I have a comeback if people harp on - sometimes the dds say the comeback! Mt first dd was stillborn, so i had 5 dds in 6 years and 20 days. I will say, well I did have 5 dds and is give anything to have them all. Or my dds will actually say mum did have 5 girls but one died. It is amazing how people move on quickly. Not the comment I like to have to make, but it irritates me that people would think anyone would be unhappy with 4 healthy dds, regardless of gender.

6demandingchildren...love that response, gonna use it as we've had that comment. Now cooking number 3! Not exactly excessive!

Missgraeme · 31/07/2016 19:18

11? Wow! Respect to you miss Graeme

SarcasmMode · 31/07/2016 19:26

Miss wow, I bet you rarely get a minute to yourself but what a lovely reason to have sleepless nights :)

Honestly just tell them actually you're happy and if they can't be happy about it, can they just not pass comment at all.

NB: I only have 2 but I honestly don't judge anyone for having however many kids they want.

Luna2016 · 31/07/2016 19:29

I'm one of seven and a comment my parents use to get is "my god did the to break" to which my dad always replied "no the condom did". Bit embarrassing but so funny.

One other time we were at the beach and we all got out of the minni van. And a elderly couple asked "my god that's a lot of kids are they all yours?". And I'll never forget my mums quick reply "I'm the CEO of durex these are the complaints." I didn't understand it then but now I do Grin.

dementedma · 31/07/2016 20:23

Luna, love those replies. Especially your mum's!

Number4OnTheWay · 26/08/2016 01:35

Ewen, for a second I wondered if you were my mum then! I am one of 6 and we are 30, 29, 26, 25, 9 and 5. All same parents, most people just don't understand!
I'm following this because I am expecting dc4 (current ages are 5, 4 and 2) and have no idea what to say when people inevitably ask do we not have hobbies (yes, shagging!) Or a TV (love that porn idea!!!)

Lollyp333 · 26/08/2016 02:20

Just say that you love making love to your husband and having children!

EllenDegenerate · 28/08/2016 00:03

Tell them you love riding cock and children are an occupational hazard.

user1478904621 · 16/11/2016 22:59

Just found this post & laughed at your comment cause that's exactly what I have said back 😂 I've got 5.

user1478904621 · 16/11/2016 23:03

That was for 6demandingchildren 😉

GoodStuffAnnie · 10/12/2016 13:18

Thanks you for the porn gag and Ellen. Laughed out loud.

yaela123 · 01/01/2017 18:27

Some of these made me laugh so much! I wish I had some good comebacks to offer.

I have 6 kids aged 16, 14, 10, 6, twins 5. I was on the pill when I got preg with the twins so very unexpected! DC 4 was only 15 months when DTs born so people often said I was crazy to have 3 kids under the age of 2 but they were right - it wasn't on purpose! Still, I wouldn't change it for the world.

Also, DC 1 is the only boy and people often say things about him having 5 younger sisters but i just tell them he likes it (true)
