double buggy

I'm hoping you ladies might be able to help me.
I'm expecting DD2 in July, DD1 will be exactly 18 months so I will need a double buggy.
We don't have a car and are keen walkers so need something sturdy with a decent basket.
Not too worried about budget at the moment so all advice welcome!

Congrats! We loved our out n about 360 nipper. It's a side by side but our eldest two loved it, was nice for them to see each other as they got bigger. Really light, great steering, good for country or city. We had 15 months between them and the older one didn't walk until just before the younger was born so we used it a lot for a long time! I know a lot of folk like the Phil n Teds but as far as I know you can't use a basket if using it as a double. Decent floor/basket too. Am quietly hoping we'll get to use our double again in the near future 😉

Hi OP, I have an 18 month old and a 3 week old and we've got the Mountain Buggy Duet.

At the moment I have the baby in a carrycot attachment, it's working well so far.

I had the Nipper double too. Loved it. Ours came with the basket bit underneath as we bought the display model but it was an add-on normally. That was 2007 though so not sure if it's still the case or not.

YY to Nipper 360. I had a single and loved it. It was by far my favourite of all the buggies (7ish) I had. The families I know with the double swear by it (it was the mum of twins who persuaded me to get my single Nipper).

But I think I'd get the Mountain Buggy if money were no object.

I love my oyster max. It's tandem and you can switch round the seats/ carry cot in different combos. Will also work as a single pram when DS1 is walking everywhere but DS2 still needs it. Love that I'm the width of a normal pram.

Out n about nipper, the narrower new versions. So lovely to push. Wouldn't bother with any other doubles now.

I had a nipper 360, it was fantastic, you can push one handed which was pretty essential as I had 2 in the pushchair and anther hand to hold, they are pretty narrow too. The 2 with an 18m gap used the nipper and loved being in it side by side.

We have pretty narrow pavements in our village so some of the time I had the 18m old in the maclaren and the baby in a sling, I also found this combo easier if I needed to go to the shops as we took up less space.

Before that with DC1 and 2 I had the Phil and Ted sport which some people love, I found it all to heavy (I have a bad back) and it annoyed me having to put shopping down where the feet go. You also have to be super careful not to wheel through dog poo as their hands are so close to the wheel.

Whichever you decide there are always loads of bargains on e-bay with the tag line 'hardly used as oldest decided to walk'. I didn't have my double nipper very long before I sold it and bought a single nipper.

If money is no object I would buy two!

1. The out n about double nipper (super to push / comfy / great for walks)
2. A double Maclaren (invaluable for quick shopping trips / keep in the car/ holidays)

Have to say I really love my Phil and Teds Explorer, really sturdy and only the width of a single buggy - although no basket when both kids are in it (you can get saddle bags though) and it is quite heavy. Still it's my most used buggy and I have had a few!

I also have a side-by-side baby jogger city mini which has a basket, is lighter but have to say I haven't used it as much.

Another vote for the 360- amazing pushchair! Very very handy to be able to push and steer it with only one hand; it's much easier to use than my single Maclaren!

The Best by far is the mountain buggy duet, its the most slim line on th market , yet my six year old can easily hop in and sit in comfort. It has great suspension and carry cots etc can be bought cheaply from ebay. Its easy to push (my nine year old likes to push the younger ones around town), and it has a good sized, accessible basket beneath and the handle bar can go into many different height positions ,so its great for shorties like me and big strapping dads.
I wouldn't ever buy a different pram having used this one for a year 😊

I love my bugaboo donkey, frequently used in both single and double mode. Expensive but it's on dc3 at the Mo and has lasted really well.

Mountain buggy duet here. It's covered in mud from our off road walks, we love it. Slim; can fit through any door a normal pram can. You can go up shallow curbs without even noticing and no tipping it. Good sized basket, I can fit loads in if I pack it cleverly. And I love that dc can sit side by side. Got it on eBay for £100.
