Any parents taken the smaller bedroom?

Hi

DC 4 due in October. Have two boys and a girl already.

Dd currently has the smallest bedroom, it's not going to fit a cot in there without being a massive squash let alone a bed

I am thinking once baby is of age not to need to sleep in with me of swapping rooms with my dd so her and baby had my current bedroom

At a glance I think I can fit my bed a single wardrobe and some drawers in there

Has anyone done similar?

As long as it has a bed I don't think you need anything else. I have a small boxroom and only have room for a single bed and computer desk. I just keep my clothes in another bedroom.

We only sleep in our bedroom so don't need loads of space Imo.

We do. Our bed is the same width as the room. Single wardrobe, chest of drawers.

My parents did. Our 3 bed council house had a master, an OK sized and a box room.

My parents moved into the middle sized room which they managed to fit a bed, wardrobes and drawers.
I was in the box room and my 2 brothers shared the master. When they began to hit teenage years my parents put up a stud wall to give both boys their own very small room but they had their own space. And ikea made it easy with space saving furniture.

We will be swapping this year back to the small.bedroom and putting the two dcs in the big room with all their toys. We d9nt have a large family but we do have a small flat, apart from the master bedroom.which is disproportionally huge so will be a bedroom/playroom

I do, not a large family but my two dds have the master bedroom and I have the smallest- as others have said I only sleep (and watch the) in my room so it seems a better use of space to me.

Are you a lone parent?
I can't see how an adult bed will fit in a room if a child bed & cot won't.

Dp is here a couple of nights per week at the moment

It's not that just a cot and a child's bed won't fit in

It's clothes for two DC

Dd has about half of her toys in her room these would have to come out if baby went in there

Downstairs is just two rooms kitchen and living room . So that would be all dds toys in my living room as well as baby stuff

We had a DD and 3 Dss in a small 3 bed house. DD had the box room, we had the middle sized room, which was just big enough for our superking bed and nothing else (built in wardrobe) and the 3 boys had the biggest room.

I only have one brother so this wasn't an issue growing up for me, but I did have the box room, it was 3x2 metres! I managed to get an every day fold out double bed and a large corner wardrobe (basically a 3 door wardrobe in size) and lots of shelving on the walls, so with some clever storage it's definitely possible to make it work!

We have 2 DC, and have had to change rooms round (due to an interconnecting, although not sole access, door causing arguments) DS now has biggest room, DH and I with the middle room and DD with the smallest, although they are all doubles. Children basically live in their rooms while parents only tend to sleep in them, so I think it makes sense to allow children to have larger bedrooms.

I would definitely do this, it just makes sense.

We have the smallest room too. The kids need space for homework and playing in their room, we don't.

Yep I know a few single parents who have taken the single room and we had the smallest double to let the DC share the biggest one.

We have a 3 bed with a loft conversion which is accessed through the largest bedroom. We have 3 girls in the loft, 3 boys in the largest bedroom and 2 toddlers in the box room. DH and I have the middle sized room, it's slightly L shaped. We can fit our king sized bed with about 14" space round 3 sides, 2 bedside tables and a tiny dressing table. We put a rail across the recess and use it as our wardrobe. We still gave the baby in our room too in her crib but she's moving into the box room with the toddlers this weekend. It'll be a squeeze in there with her cot but they don't really play in there so they'll be fine.

I did. Much easier to keep a small room private and not full of kids toys than it is if you have the largest one and they find it's the only practical space for them to play, which was what had happened in my previous house.

I was a single parent then and you don't need a large bedroom for one person. When DP started staying over though he did complain that the room got very stuffy for two if we shut the door tight.

Growing up my sister and I shared the largest room in the house, my brother had the smallest and mother had the medium sized one. It's not unusual, we had bunk beds and I loved it.
