We are 8 and I haven't booked anything yet. Not a huge budget but have just been surprised by some extra cash. Where's everyone going this year? Or are you having a staycation?

How old are they? Ours are older/teens now so we're looking to go abroad as I think they're great ages to get a lot out seeing new cultures. We're trying Croatia this year, in a hotel. We're 8, like you, so it's not cheap (3 rooms, with 3 kids in each room) but not dissimilar to hiring a house and car like we did last year. Hiring cars for 8 is hugely expensive, so we're trying to avoid or this year (staying in a town with lots going on).

We are family of 7 and did Centre Parcs in Holland last year - much cheaper than UK and it catered for all ages (13-2years) - all had great fun! Would go back this summer but expecting DC6Grin

We have had magical holidays in Devon, Dorset and Cornwall. We always stay in a nice house (not getting on a plane saves lots). We get out and explore the beaches and national trust sites.

We used to go on very chic.expensive, lazy resort holidays with fancy childcare. I can honestly say that we've enjoyed our great British seaside holidays just as much if not more.

I should add that we have always come up trumps weather wise. It is a gamble though.

Would you consider houseswapping? Lots of good sites like green theme international or uk holiday swap. We have had 6 great house swaps, no bad experiences. Lots of people have had biggish families. Last folk we swapped with had 4 teenage boys. You should try it!!! What we save in not renting a holiday home we use to do activities we otherwise couldnt afford. We love it.
