Booking a holiday for a large family

I'm looking to book a break in Feb half term as DC5 is due to put in an appearance around Easter time and we'd like a short break before the sleepless nights kick in. I'm thinking that we should play it safe and stay in the UK as I'll be 29/30 weeks pg and have had complicated pregnancies in the past.

I'm trying to find somewhere vaguely exciting that can cope with 2 adults and 4 children. A few luxuries would be nice although not essential. Some fun for the DCs with minimal effort would be very appreciated.

The thing is, we live in Cumbria. We don't want to holiday locally but I can't seem to find somewhere good to escape to that isn't on our doorstep or ages away down in Cornwall, South Wales or over in Norfolk.

Any suggestions either for places to go or tips on holidaying with a larger than average family?

I have used Owners Direct both in the UK and abroad as they are the cheapest self catering lets, for a large group. You just need to be sure that there is a UK Phone number and speak to the owners directly. Always check their references on tripadvisor.
North Wales is lovely and also what about a Youth Hostel? If you are short of cash. You don't say what your budget us. They are really smart now and have family rooms.
Llangollen has a steam train and canal boat trips and beautiful walks and is not too far from Chester ( Chester has the walls and gorgeous shops for you) and the Sea. Rhyl is a bit of a dump but there are lovely caravan parks there of a very good standard. And the coast line has lovely walks. Llandudno is also lovely. It is a beautiful old town.
We have just come back from a weekend in North Wales and there is Erddig, Penrhyn Castle , Carnarvon Castle etc and a lovely coast line. Lovely cafés etc. We enjoyed the Steam train from Llangollen to Corwen. The train was packed with hordes of kids enjoying them selves. It was lovely to see them. The cafés are very good and cheap.
I love Norfolk as well. Around Fellbrigg Hall. NT places are always beautiful.

We use welcome cottages tend to travel to somewhere different each year and explore the area. The northumbria coast is beautiful so are the north york moors or yorkshire coast.

I know this is a Zombie thread but I wanted to know if anyone could recommend a lovely holiday park in UK for larger families, somewhere with a beach in walking distance
