Is there such a thing as hotel rooms for 5?

We want to spend a couple of days scouting out places for relocating, but rooms for 5 seem non-existent. Our children are a bit young for a room on their own (not to mention it being twice the price of course). Are there ANY hotels or chains that cater for larger families? We're looking around Oxfordshire/bucks/northants but I'd be interested to know in general too.

The only think I've found so far that some tolerate by prior arrangement is using a travel cot for the youngest. We've done this at travel lodge in a family room.

If there is a Travelodge in the area they will usually set up a 5th bed for you. Just make the booking for a family room then call them.

I would call them 1st just to check that their rooms are big enough.

We've found premier inn quite accommodating, although admittedly one was in a cot (so we had large room with double, two singles & a cot-the room would've fitted another small bed)

Try Youth Hostels. Apart from having to make your own beds, and sleep in bunks, they are often just as good as a 2 or even 3 star hotels. They have small dorms for 6, with ensure, which work very well as family rooms. Food is generally very good, and of course you have the option of preparing your own food. They are excellent value for money.

This website can help a bit and I think there is another one. Late rooms let you search for 5. Brewley Hotels are good, but I think they only have one hotel in Leeds.

We stayed in a Holiday Inn in Aylesbury, and they gave us two inter connecting rooms for the price of one, as their sleeps 5 room wasn't available. Phoning direct can sometimes get you a deal.

Youth hostels are good but more than anything forget the chains and look at small b&b.

Out best rooms for 5 have actually been mini suites with interconnecting rooms say in old converted houses where a " dressing room" has been used- it couldn't be let out any other way as you go through parents room to the kids one!

Watch travel lodges. Much as they say " all our rooms have a sofa bed " or such guff we suddenly had a problem in that they couldn't accommodate our 3rd ( adult sized) child at one particular airport branch ( apparently it was a different hotel before it was travel lodge so the rooms were too small) so instead if 2 rooms in one hotel the 2nd was in the other branch on the same site!

Not a problem with 20/17/14yr olds but 10yrs ago at 10/7/4 and impossible nightmare!

Also try Great Western - we had interconnecting rooms and the three kids slept in one, us in the other.

We were slightly worried about them opening their door though so put a chair in front of it.

Wasn't too pricey either.

Why does everyone seem to need the arrangement to be adults in one room & DCs in the other? .

We have found rooms for 5 to be hard to come by too, so DH shares with DS1 & I share with DS2 & DD. Travelodge rooms start at £29 per night - £58 for all 5 isn't that bad is it?

SantasLittleMonkeyButler, we do that for the odd night, but for a holiday its not really much fun!

Santalittlemonkey mainly because no one sleeps then! It's too novel end interesting for the smalls to be sharing with a parent. " mummy you still there?" Wears thin at 3am when you had a couple of years of good nights and the youngest is 4!

Thankfully, ours have never done that Theas18 .

Santaslittlemonkeybutler, we'd do that if we had to, but I see little enough of my DH as it is, I quite like to sleep with him when he's around! We'd probably put all the kids to sleep together though and transfer one of them when they are asleep. I didn't realise travelodge rooms were so cheap, I'm sure they've been more expensive when I looked. I'll have another nosy.

Just wanted to say thanks for the advise, I found a hotel through the roomsfor5 website, we're staying in a suite with extra beds in. Amazingly, it looks like the kind of place I'd like to stay even without kids! :)

Book a family room or suite. Or request extra bedding and some kids kip on the floor.

We either do interconnecting rooms or just book two rooms, one adult, two DC in each, we have a boys and a girls room and have great fun x
