Gaps between 3

We'd love a third but DC1 would be 5 and DC2 just over 3.5 if I conceived now. I'm nearly 40. Do you think 40 is too late and would having a bigger gap between 2 and 3 be a bad idea? DC1 & 2 were only 14 months apart and are very close. they do everything together. i found it really tough having them almost back to back and suffered pnd after DC2 so am just getting back to a kind of normality psychologically. Head tells us to stop at 2, heart tells us to have 3. DH would love 3, as would I.

Couldn't read and run! I have a dd1 age 5 and dd2 age 3 (only just! Summer bday) . Am due dc 3 , all being well of course in dec, am only 15 weeks and have been quite ill on and off (not preg related but prob didn't help recovery) currently ok and feeling positive. Like you my dh was quite keen and we sort of left it to fate (with me really rather too aware of cycles for true fate!!!) but he got quite into it after the first month and there was the bfp! Family were not surprised, I think they knew what I wanted and we just seem to suit three, finances, house car all ok, it is still rather nerve wracking though and I have realised it is def the third child I want (knew that anyway of course) but I am surprised I am not so kee on being pregnant this time! It's tiring and I know of too many things that might go wrong. Overall very pleasd though and can't wait to get stuck into life with 3dc! School run with two pre schoolers in tow!! Head still says 2 would be easier....well that's obvious and three isn't even here yet, but heart is settled.

I had dd4 when I was 40, I guess if you can conceive, you are never too old to have a baby. My eldest dd was 5 when my last baby was born. They get along well, as does dd2 who was 3.5 when dd4 was born. I also have dd3 who was 22 months. I don't think they are big age gaps. Mine love and fight with each other in equal measure! They are hard work, but I am sure I would have always been left wondering 'what if' if I had not had dd4.

Mummytheressfirebeeonyourhead the school run makes me wonder how hard it would be with two preschoolers but it doesn't stop you wanting more. Glad you're settled on three. We have a friend with 5 and she makes it look easy. She naturally very chilled as a person so am sure that help. Congrats btw.
Imip glad to hear they get along and you're right that if you can conceive it should be ok. There are always the scaremongers who make you worry but I shouldn't listen. They are hard work, aren't they and nothing prepares but but I don't want to love with the what-if scenario.
Why is it that despite the amount of stress/work we always want more. On good days I want 4 but not sure I's cope. DC2 is full on: loud, busy and needs a lot if attention. I keep wondering if another would calm him down or make him more demanding.
