Packing a roof box???

Figured this may be the best place to ask as you all have large families so many of you probably have used a roof box.

We are doing are first car trip holiday since DC4 was born this New Year and having convinced DH to get a roof box (DC2 is in a seat that takes up half the boot space) how do you pack the thing sensibly?

  • do you put the bulky things like pram and buggy up there?
  • do you fill it with smaller bags rather than try and lift a suitcase up into it?

Watching with interest as we've just ordered a roof box - even though we only have 2 DC Smile

We use one for camping trips (and there are only 3 of us!). Dh likes to put heavy things in there like the campbeds and table / chairs etc. His reasoning is that this helps keep the weight evenly distributed and closer to the front axel which outs less stress on the back.

We absolutely love ours. Just remember it's on when going into car parks and pay stations on French toll roads (I didn't ever have to reverse into another queue whilst being smirked at by other drivers - no siree).
