While away some b*** hit and run driver has written off my car parked at home. I will probably inherit dh Honda accord and we will have to buy a new car, insurance will prob be next to nothing so wanting a fairly cheap secondhand car (up to 5000 I guess), but one which we could use the boot to put an extra person in. We have 3 children (nearly 3, 5 + 7), so want something with space in the back for car seats, but flexible as most of the time we will be wanting boot space (camping trips etc), but occassionally an extra person (probably me) in the back when visit FIL etc.

Most importantly needs to be reliable as dh drives 20K a year, and ideally fairly ecconomical, handles well, etc etc! Thanks for any advice.

Tourans are great, some seat 7 but you'd need to get quite an old one for a budget of £5k I think. We haven't got one but I've heard a lot imof positive reviews.

6+ seaters are dear, especially if you want something that runs cheaply. They get terrible fuel economy, too, quite shocking many of them. You'd be better off getting a good estate or even getting something small like a micra, and use surplus budget to hire 7 seater when needed.

I really love our zafira, as do our 3 friends who own them, varying ages of 1999,2002,06,07. And they're all reliable good cars.
