DC4 due soon - what to batch cook for the freezer?

Hi,

DC4 is due in 6 weeks, Christmas week, then DH will have 2 weeks off work. DH is not bad in the kitchen so those 2 weeks will be ok but I am thinking I need to batch cook some meals to get us through January. The eldest will be 6 in January and DH is away at work from 7.15am-6.30pm so home just in time to help with bath/bed usually but not dinner. With the previous babies I have just had them in the sling regularly whilst dinner was made but never had to fit in homework and after school activities before so thinking the tea-time rush is going to be hectic for a bit......

But what to cook?

Things we all eat that I can freeze are:

Spag Bol
Chilli con carne - mild
Stews
....then I run out of ideas as we don't use the freezer much for meals.

Anything else handy to have in freezer apart from bread and frozen veg?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Meatballs? You can even freeze the cooked spaghetti to go with them if you want?

Fresh01 · 09/11/2011 22:03

Thanks for those. Hadn't occurred to me to freeze cooked spaghetti!

Shepherd's pie? Chuck load of veg in pie too and you barely need to add anything Wink

Mild korma-style curries?
Pizza dough?
Fish pie?
Uncooked Fish cakes?
Cheese sauce for Macaroni cheese?

Scones
Cake
Soup
Fish cakes

I did this all last year and promptly forgot it all

DC5 is due in Feb here, and i'm starting batch cooking after Christmas.

I'll be making a load of mince and onions up that way i can get it out and decide wether to turn it into Shepards pies, chilli, Spag bol or just mince and tatties.

I'll also be doing

Pork curry
Beany sausages
Beef Stew

And then cakes!

Tea bread
Carrot cake
Madeira

Apple crumbles
any type of pies
Sausage casserole
Mini toad in the holes (made in bun tray with cocktail sausages)

Thanks for those ideas. Pies would go down well with everyone. Made the chilli con today so at least I have made a start : )
