About to announce third pg--give me some lines for those raised eyebrows!!

I'm very happily pg with dc3 and (fingers crossed) after my scan this week I will start admitting the belly is pg related rather than cake.
I am almost certain that there'll will be "comments". I can cope with the "you're mad" comments.
I'm struggling to justify the fact that it's not the most environmentally friendly thing to do to bring another human being into the world.
It also feels a bit greedy (I am MAD after all) that I'm having three when some of friends are struggling to have two, both phyisically and financially.

I know of one close friend who has openly expressed disapointment that another mutal friend has had three " cos (he) thought they were more environmentally aware".

I'm considering returning to being a veggie so I can ask them if they eat meat becuase that it one of the main environmental arguments, as is having a family dog( which I don't!)

Plase can you share your best lines when you announced your +2 pg to the world!!

Do people really comment on 3? It's not very unusual!

I had dd3 last year & lots of people assume we will go for 4.

Tell them all methods of contraception not environmentally sound.
Hormones in the water turning fish female, and comdoms take thousands of years to decompose!

I don't think it's unusual. I'm one of three! Two sets of friends had baby three in the last two years and there was def commenting going on. I'm expecting a bit of friendly banter from the school mums. Both my big ones will be in school when this one arrives and I'll have teenagers and a pre schooler at some point so it'll be more that I'm mad for going nappy/boob phase again.

The comments I'm concerned about are the ones that imply that everyone should have two kids. My friend has got those and she'sgot one. It drives her just as insane!

Well one aged aunt acused us of being like rabbits when we announced DC3. Was 3 in 4 years though and totally by choice. Good luck and enjoy!

Silly people make silly comments regardless. First baby, fifth baby, choice of car, names, bf v ff, anything at all.

3 isn't unusual at all. I wouldn't bat an eyelid, don't know many who would. If people do say silly things you just look blankly at them and say 'did you mean for that to sound rude/silly/thoughtless?' Or do what 90% of us do and say nothing but start a thread later.

We have 3 and often (every couple of weeks since dd2 was born after a biggish gap) get asked if she was planned. By almost total strangers at times. Feck them.

A-ha! That's the classic one!!! My poor sister has spent her whole life with the whole world asking my parents, and then when she was old enough, is she was planned?? Jaw dropping!!!

At least when you have 3 kids you can't possibly afford to fly anywhere, unlike those foursomes always easyjetting off hither and thither
There are economies of scale too - all the equipment and clothes get more use

I shall point them to our energy meter and point out that we (as a four) consume less that the average British couple at the moment. (I'm going to switch the meter off when come Xmas I'm using the tumble dryer to dry my newborn's reuseable nappies!)

Can I join u? - I'm just about to announce unplanned no. 4. Tbh I didn't get much stick about ds3 - the usual 'are u mad' as you say but I just said To most folk - it's just another kid to chuck in the bath really cos you've totally changed your life for no.1 anyway. I have thought about environmental issue but we all wear charity shop (and hand me downs from friends-clothes r on their 4th baby now). We live in town and barely drive anywhere, walk to work, don't use the heating much (cos skint!) so I reckon we use less than alot of families with 2 kids who buy new,drive to work and holiday in Spain a couple of times a year - (we do drive to Norfolk though)

Hi lollystix! Environmentally, I think we 're quite well behaved, like your family.
I shouldn't give a monkey... but I just almost want to have a showstopping line to draw a line under the issue. And "just f* off and mine your own" is a bit emotional!

End of the day it's obviously MY issue and I need to deal with it.

In my opinion, a loved child that grows up to be a happy, hard-working man or woman is more beneficial to society than a small saving for the environment.

If it bothers you, you can always look at ways to be "greener" but to be honest it's your choice, so it's not your problem what they think.

WTF??? Maybe its because I'm Irish, but I really don't get why having three children is shocking.

Yep, unless said people walk everywhere, live in an eco-yurt and wear clothes they knitted themselves out of organic goat hair it really ain't any of their business.
