Tracking antisemitism 2

continuing on from the last thread which morphed from a discussion about antisemitism to tracking it globally.

I’ve probably missed people out

to start off with something positive - this was a few yeshiva students response to antisemitism ❤️🕎

“Three Jewish college students from NJ were dancing at Denver International Airport. They said they were motivated to do this after the mass shooting in Australia: “We will not be scared or give in to the darkness, we will only add more and more light.” Happy Hanukkah!”

they’re playing my favourite zusha chanuka song, and one of them looks like DHs nephew who lives in America! Had to do a double take and check it wasn’t him!😆

Too late. I already looked, it’s vile.

Yep. I've been crossing swords for 2 days. It's really very unpleasant.

SpuytenDuyvil · 06/03/2026 20:51

Sickening. I am so ashamed of some of my countrymen.

LucyWestenra · 07/03/2026 08:56

I’ve only just returned to my thread. That comment about having to see the 7 October attacks ‘in context’ is one of the vilest things I’ve ever read on here.

I’m surprised the comment has been allowed to stand.

Well, it's not surprising. The point seems to be made on there that the Israelis aren't innocent victims, which seems to include those raped, kidnapped and murdered on Oct 7th. It's got to be taken "in context" I spent ages on it yesterday, arguing.
Very distressing.

I find the lack of empathy on show terrifying, I really do.

We must not allow this to be normalised.

OrangeAxolotyl · 07/03/2026 13:26

I decided to challenge this wherever I saw it. I find it astonishing that somehow there is justification or "context" for Oct 7th.
It was something of a prolonged and difficult argument, as you can see.

Yes, I couldn’t believe some of the stuff I was reading this morning.

Kudos for challenging it!

That's ok. I'm just determined to speak up and speak out, I'm so horrified.
It's up to us non Jews to be vocal and challenge antisemitism, which seems to be getting worse.

I agree wholeheartedly, which is why I started the thread.

I used to post under a different username last year and started a couple of threads in support of the Jewish community (including one on the anniversary of the 07 Oct attacks) but I got some abuse from posters (one called ‘nomas’ immediately springs to mind) and I’m afraid I stepped away for a while because my mental health was also pretty shit (not that it’s great now).

But yes, we absolutely need to challenge this whenever we see it. It’s not acceptable and the fewer people call it out the more normalised it becomes. And that can’t happen.

OrangeAxolotyl · 07/03/2026 13:44

I had to name change because I got a lot of negative responses. I know that poster very well! It's very frustrating. There's support for Iran on there - not even tacit!

I hope these people aren’t raising children, I really do. Passing on those views.

That is so sickening, do you know if the comment has been reported? I would be happy to do so but would need the name of the thread.
I am not liking this decade, I struggle to comprehend how anti-Semitism has become so mainstream, it's sickening and scary. But as a non-Jew the Jewish community has my solidarity. I am not as brave as some posters but I will try to be bolder.

Historically the trend for a new 'acceptable' form of antisemitism and subsequent hate/violence is once every 80 years (in fact that's where we got 'it's not Jew-hate, it's 'antisemitism''). So we are on track for the next wave now.

How surprising.

What historians tend to find is that it spikes during specific conditions of political instability, economic crisis, scapegoating by leaders etc so it’s preventable, not inevitable. The actual dates of major persecutions such as the Crusades, the Inquisition, 17th-century pogroms, the Holocaust aren’t spaced out evenly at all. The gaps are totally inconsistent.

Especially when the context is their written mandate to kill all the Jews and annihilate the Jewish state…

I’ve had a bit of a break from Mumsnet but just wanted to check in and see how anyone in Israel is. Sending love and stength.
@EllaDisenchanted hope you are doing ok.
I watched a good video from Campaign against antisemitism speaking to locals near the Archway Gail’s, the one that was vandalised. Lots of people completely appalled.

Emilesgran · 14/03/2026 22:14

Hi. I just want to add my own (non Jewish) voice here to say how awful the attacks on Jewish people going on everywhere and anywhere are. I'm not very active on Mumsnet so haven't posted on that here, but since Oct 7th which was a massive wake-up for me, I have spent a lot of time on Irish discussion sites in particular, and in real life, trying (often not very successfully) to reason with people.

Anyway I came here tonight wondering if anyone had info about the Temple Israel attacker - I came across something in the shockingly positive NYT coverage on him saying that his ex wife had "physical custody" of their children - so I'm wondering if there was domestic violence involved: I know it's something that's been shown in studies about violent extremists.

I found the divorce court, I think: https://www.3rdcc.org/case-search but the search function seems to be down (and it may not be the right place anyway)
https://www.3rdcc.org/apps/opa.html
(It's the second one that doesn't work)

IME Mumsnet has been a great source of info on trans issues and other stuff, with some people who have found amazing stuff, but I'm not sure where to ask for this information - which is how I discovered a Jewish Mumsnet forum.😀

(Sorry for "hijacking" this thread - if you feel I should start a thread for this, I'm happy to but I'm not sure where to put it: it doesn't seem like an AIBU thread, but nor is it "chat" exactly.)

Hi 👋 welcome :) it’s not a hijack, don’t worry. I’ve not even posted about the various synagogue attacks and other antisemitic attacks last week 🤦‍♀️. will try update soon.

I can’t tell you anything about domestic violence links or how to search for it, sorry I have seen that his wife is reported to have shared concerns with the police when he contacted her in advance of the attack regarding the kids. I don’t know if that was concern about his mental health or concern about what he might do, but in itself indicates he was likely an unstable character.

The main info I have seen on the attacker is that he is reported to have had links to Hezbollah, and the siblings and relatives killed in the IDF strikes were Hezbollah members. This doesn’t seem to be fully verified at the moment.

https://www.timesofisrael.com/michigan-synagogue-attacker-was-us-lebanese-citizen-with-relatives-said-killed-in-idf-strike/amp/

I don’t think this was ‘an act of revenge’, as seems to be the way MSM are framing it; the timeline implies he quit his job before his relatives were killed.

I question this idea of an act of revenge in the first place. The temple holds a preschool for Jewish children. How is attempting to murder Jewish children ‘revenge’ for Israel attacks in Lebanon? The way this is debated and framed in public discourse in mainstream is a scandal imo and I think in itself is antisemitic.

Pogroms historically were usually framed as retaliation against Jews for various crimes (usually invented and used to whip up hate and violence). I think the current discourse of antisemitism being ‘understood’ by people as logical ‘because Israel’ falls into the same category. Kristallnacht for example was ‘revenge against Jews’ for the assassination of someone by a Jew.
