What do you eat before Kol Nidre?

Since I moved away from my parents, Kol Nidre has been rush home from work, eat something quickly, change and rush off to shul. It has never felt like Erev Chag.

I can’t remember what DM used to prepare. I think she used to light candles, we didn’say Kiddush, and the meal would be relatively simple - not to start the fast over-laden. But I don’t remember.

I feel so sad today. DM is alive, but getting disconnected in her memory. I love Yom Kippur, it is such a feeling of connection. But this year it is painful.

What will you eat before Kol Nidre?

A big soup with lots of stuff in it, and challah. Nothing spicy. Plenty of protein.

Chicken soup with kneidlach sounds very likely.

I made a mistake a few years back. I thought we should have a light meal and made grilled flounder and asparagus. It is often hot here this time of year and we were in the sanctuary standing for the Kol Nidre. The lights were hot, the room was hot and DH started to sway. He sat down suddenly and I hissed, "Stand up!" not realizing he was feeling woozy. He ended up having to go outside to get some cool-ish air. I learned a lesson. A heartier meal and good protein before the fast. G'mar chatimah tovah.
