Keeping up with current events in Israel

I've been listening to the Unholy: Two Jews on the News podcast with Yonit Levi of Israel's Channel 12 News and Jonathan Freedland of The Guardian for at least 6 months. It's fascinating.

Last week they hosted an episode featuring Amit Segal, an Israeli political analyst with whom they very clearly disagreed. It occurred to me that it would be helpful for me to hear and understand a broader range of views about what's going on in Israel rather than just Yonit and Jonathan's left / central perspective. In fact, I don't even know how left / central they are because I don't have the broader view to create comparison! I just assume it is because Jonathan writes for The Guardian! Are there any other podcasts or publications you'd recommend? Thanks.

This isn't specifically about Israel but I really enjoyed the podcast 'Jews Do Count' by Raymond Simonson and Jonathan Boyd. Generally quite liberal but they accommodate a range of views. It's very Jewish community/identity focused but there's an episode 'Israel on our Minds'.

And yes, Unholy is excellent.

I also really struggle to find balanced and properly informed reporting on the issues. I’m finding it particularly difficult right now to make sense of what is happening in Lebanon.

I do find reading the BBC and Jerusalem Post’s reports of the same events can be illuminating in showing the very different perspectives. JP also sometimes have interesting opinion pieces. I thought William Hague’s piece in today’s Times was pretty good too (behind a paywall so can’t link).

The really interesting thing about Lebanon at the moment is that the proper Lebanese army have pulled well back from the southern border. They are letting the IDF get on with tackling Hizbullah.

I really recommend Ask A Jew - two women, an Israeli secular woman and Chabad orthodox. They’re very funny too.
