I think you should all try making it then report back here with pictures and I'll judge the best one. I'll arrange for the winner to receive a special pin-up photograph and annual from Giraffe.

Aaand I just lost my appetite.

@79Helene if you don't have a cookery blog, you should do. I never thought a brie and chocolate toastie could sound so tempting but now I want to aim for synchronised melting because I think it's something I could really aspire to.

the more everyone is saying brie and chocolate the less tempting it gets 😅

That's because you've been scarred by your mouldy brie experience. Give yourself time to heal, then you will join us...

Ottolenghi has a recipe for making preserved lemons in the Jerusalem cookbook. It's on my one day to try to make list (i.e. probably never).

If you want some inspiration, I was listening to Kitchen Cabinet the other day and there were suggestions about what to do with a surfeit of preserved lemons. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0020h6r www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0020h6r]] it's at 14:25. Can you listen to iPlayer???

I'd switch the Brie for cheddar and the chocolate for baked beans, personally...

I can't listen no 😫 I can't watch it either. I miss interior design masters 😭
I could go for a good baked beans and cheddar grilled sarnie. They don't really do tinned baked beans in tomato sauce here either.

@EllaDisenchanted you should be able to listen to BBC sounds regardless od where you are geographically.

I’m planning on doing something, not sure what yet, with my lemons over the weekend but I’ve just spent the morning making pickles - cucumbers, mixed vegetables and chilli peppers (I remembered to put on gloves first!)

EdithStourton · 28/06/2024 11:29

Preserved lemons go very well in the sort of biscuits where you chill the dough in long rolls in the fridge and then slice it up.
Chop the lemons small and mix them in.

(I once had a jar of the things to use up.)

Humdingerydoo · 28/06/2024 13:26

Hmm. Eating the toasty now and I'm not a fan. Brie should be eaten cold, not melted. I've just wasted brie. It's not a great start to the weekend, being heartbroken about wasting good cheese.

The chocolate reminds me of a thing from my childhood - we had "sandwich chocolate" which were veeeeery thin bread-slice sized pieces of chocolate that you'd put on freshly toasted bread and just watch it melt. The chocolate I approve of.

So I'm sorry @79Helene , this was not a winner in my eyes! I'll try not to hold it against you moving forward but I make no promises.

Look forward to hearing others' opinions!

Humdingerydoo · 28/06/2024 13:48

But also, just came across this!

All this food talk has piqued my interest! 🤣

Does anyone know if the foods you're talking about is silent reflux friendly? I would like to visit Israel at some point, so kinda need to know.

In general, I have to eat foods high in protein and low in fat as well as avoid acid unless I can neutralise it and preservatives which is a big no-no. Pretty much means I have to find organic foods or make from scratch.

Oh no I've ruined your weekend already and it's only Friday! 😭

Brie should be eaten cold, not melted
Genuinely thinking of reporting this post for breaking my talk guidelines.
Next you'll be telling me you don't like baked camembert.

Brie should be eaten cold
I would say ideally, room temp.

I hope you can salvage the rest of the weekend and I'll now flounce off for a while until you can forgive me 😂

Shocking, isn't it?
Melted brie is a thing of wonder.

And yes, I agree with room temperature, rather than cold, being ideal - I was just so distraught at the whole melted brie experience that I couldn't find it in me to take the time to find the correct words. I was in severe distress.

Hopefully others will still like it though! There's a saying in my home country: Preference is like a bum - everyone has one. Except in my language it rhymes and therefore sounds way better and less insane 😂

Alright, no need to gang up on me!

I stand by what I said though - Brie is better not melted.

Baked Camembert, however, is the only reason I occasionally agree to spend Christmas in the UK instead of going back home to my family. It's a thing of wonder!

You might struggle in Israel 🙈 They don't shy away from using lots of oil. It makes everything taste better!

What absolute nonsense. You don't just get to decide brie is better melted! I realise it's currently 3 - 1 but that doesn't make you right! It just means you've all succumbed to melted brie propaganda
