I have filo and date syrup in my stores, will pop out and get some cream on the way home from work. Might need some hints on the frying of filo pastry.

We usually cheat and use puff pastry or frozen parathas instead 🙃 so I can't help!

Now I'm wondering if "filo pastry" is actually just a weird translation from my MIL. Hmm.

Rather unhelpfully, Google says both filo and puff pastry 😂

You've spent too long on the CITME board with your insane "facts" 😂😂😂

But I will accept that they are natural enemies in the wild. I've never seen cheese and chocolate together in nature. There must be a reason for that.

All I'm saying is.... brie and chocolate panini.

Humdingerydoo · 12/06/2024 22:54

Just don't forget to milk a water buffalo to make the double cream!

VerityUnreasonble · 12/06/2024 22:56

Also if cheesecake day is confusing - wait until we get to Sukkot...

Wait, what?! That's surely not a thing? Who has chocolate on a panini??

Ok I just googled it and now all I want is a brie and chocolate toastie.

Had it on holiday in Quebec years ago and is legit one of the nicest things I've ever eaten.

I have frozen parathas too, do you use sharma brand? They're quite savoury but I'm willing to give it a crack.

Another fun food fact....Indian Horlicks was made with water buffalo milk...or so I was told.

I use the Humza brand ones, but I'm pretty sure I've had Shana ones before if that's what you mean? Can't personally taste the difference!

I also use the same parathas when I make sujee halwa which is also sweet 🤤 but that's not a Jewish thing, that's just my family's Indian influences :)

I'm going to try it for lunch next week when the kids are out of my hair! Don't want to have to share.

Ah that's interesting, I always thought the cheesecake was because of the milk and honey thing. That the Torah was nourishing like milk and sweet like honey, so we should celebrate this by eating nice sweet cheesecake.

Although, I will accept any interpretation that allows for a cheesecake festival tbh.

Also works as a reason. Could be a reference to Eretz Yisrael (land of milk and honey)

You want a mild brie so it doesn't overpower the chocolate.

Well, you know how it is, @noblegiraffe. Two Jews, at least three opinions? Same with recipes and each of our grandmothers made them best

I can sort of see how this would work 🤔 I happen to have my neighbours Brie in the fridge. Actually it could be a Camembert. Think that would work? Aren’t they almost the same?

@Humdingerydoo is date syrup silan? I cook with it daily, and use it in my coffee, but it’s wat too sweet for me to have on fried pastry 🥮

@79Helene whhhhy???🤯

OP posts:
Humdingerydoo · 13/06/2024 07:59

Yeah, Silan. Iraqis are obsessed with the stuff.
