Lurker for a long while and often used to read posts by a trulywonderful but haven't seen this username in a long time.

She disappeared a few months ago now. She was very funny, I miss her and her frequently outrageous comments!

She was brilliant. Long thoughtful posts, really humorous and patient too.

stomachamelon · 05/06/2024 08:57

I think it's really sad that she has gone and I think it was on the back of a ban. Miss her wit!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 05/06/2024 09:09

I just have to say that I admire the quiet dignity of Israelilefty on her AMA thread when, in her long, thoughtful and generous posts, where she offers responses that are not polemic, are nuanced and often must be quite emotionally hard to write, she meets a brick wall of those who don't want to listen, recognise complexity or hear anything that does not back up their entrenched and one-sided views. I think she's being goaded but she always retains the moral high ground.

Can you link me to that thread?

I've seen some of their posts in other threads and could see the nuance, e.g. the peace deal thread.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 05/06/2024 09:22

I could ... but it might be worth asking Israeli if she needs any help/intervention first. It's an AMA thread and she was clear earlier that she didn't want a debate thread. Although I sit on my hands...

Of course, naturally. I just want to see what they say and what I can learn from them. 👍

YetAnotherSpartacus · 05/06/2024 09:24

Oh good. It's an amazing thread.

Just popping in to post as I'm normally a lurker and have no place here. My grandmother was Jewish but my father and aunt were not brought up in that faith or any to be fair. They did however 'look' Jewish which was enough to cause issues at times. I can't even imagine how tough it is for you all at the moment. I stand together with you all against antisemitism

Yes, and pretty long too!

Unsurprisingly, everyone is asking them about the conflict whereas I may have a question or two that's NOT conflict related.

Just as I get irritated that most people talk about Northern Ireland through a conflict lens and miss the actual, real culture of the people, so I would think most Israelis feel a similar way.

Essentially, I'm looking for something about the everyday Israel its people know, love, experience and love daily.

The nuance is largely lost on Western audiences which is sad.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 05/06/2024 10:16

Sounds like great questions to post!

Thanks for the support!

And @0palfruitsalad74I agree, her posts on there have been great. Hoping she'll be one of the candidates at the next Israeli general election 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Argh it was meant to be @YetAnotherSpartacus - I blame my fat fingers

That potential ceasefire thread is a right mess, but it absolutely shows the folly of trying to discuss a deal where details are actually slim on the ground, where it constantly chops and changes.

It also shows too many people don't really understand what a peace process actually looks like, how it works and what it takes to get there. Always frustrating to see people using the Belfast Agreement as an example because it's completely unsuitable to use as a frame for the Middle East Region (MER) where Israel has aggressors on multiple fronts. The UK hasn't had that kind of experience since 1945! Even then, it was very different to what Israel faces in the MER.

The West has a serious problem with comprehending what war looks like, how to win one, what peace processes look like since they're all pretty different and so on.

I've still to put my perspective up on why the West & East Germany with Berlin as an international city is wholly inappropriate, inadequate and will be a failure for MER just as it was for partitioned Germany post 1945. Someone asked me my thoughts on that.

A week or two as I'm kind of still in the "one man's terrorist" thing. That'll turn into one big feast of circular reasoning very soon. 🤦‍♂️

Humdingerydoo · 05/06/2024 18:19

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is all.

Humdingerydoo · 05/06/2024 18:50

Apparently it must be really scary to be Muslim or Christian in Jerusalem today because of the march.

Said by the same posters who have been saying it's safe for Jews in London on a Saturday.

Humdingerydoo · 05/06/2024 18:55

I clearly need a distraction in order to save me from myself 🤪

Quick, someone say something funny!

79Helene · 05/06/2024 19:08

There's a core group of posters over there who really need to get the word 'Jew' out their mouths.

Yes please, before they decide to redefine that word too.

Humdingerydoo · 05/06/2024 19:18

I'm honestly just so angry. My eye is twitching.

To be honest, they already have! And so many bloody opinions about us.

Imagine the reaction if we started thread after thread to opine about Muslims and Islam, 24/7. Or divided them into goodies and baddies.

They're fucking sick.

The outrageously blatant hypocrisy today though with regards to the march in Jerusalem is just too much. We matter so little that in 8 months no one has believed us. One march where Jews are the aggressors and not only are they believing Palestinians in Jerusalem when they say they're scared, they're not even waiting to hear from them! They're just assuming it must be terrifying for them. Which it probably is, but that's very much not the point! Just get over your hatred of Jewish people long enough to believe us 😩

Yes it's flipping unbelievable @Humdingerydoo and @79Helene .
