Can you tell I'm only half ashki 😂

SpuytenDuyvil · 04/06/2024 17:19

My matzo balls for Pesach this year were an unmitigated disaster. Not even sinkers, which I am OK with. They were hard as a rock and nothing could improve them. The second round, same thing. I am concerned that my kneidlach card will be revoked. But here is a challah, that was also delicious, although not for Pesach, obviously

Looks beautiful. I first made Challah during lockdown.... several times actually but I had to stop myself as I could not stop eating it!

PurpleChrayn · 04/06/2024 17:26

My local Tesco had all the kosher for Pesach stuff on sale, and I bought about 5 Manischewitz kneidlach kits. They're so floaty as to be almost solely air! Wish I hadn't bought so many.

Humdingerydoo · 04/06/2024 17:29

@SpuytenDuyvil your challah looks amazing!! My kids would demolish it in one sitting.

@PurpleChrayn yay, another sinker fan! Well done on having the correct opinion :)

When DH and I were first married I regaled him with tales of the wonderful gefilte fish my aunt made every year. Seriously the best gefilte fish the world has ever known (and I stand by that). problem is my aunt lives in a completely different country and so I bought those jarred gefilte things in jelly from Mr Waitrose and proudly served them up. DH went a paler shade of grey then threw them up. I was so sad. Then I tried them and I have never ever forgotten how revoltingly revolting they were. I did not quite throw it up- but our local foxes definitely seemed to think they were okay- although they left the jelly.

Poor guy. Jarred Gefilte fish is a sin. Ashki and sefardi agree there. Whoever first made it should be excommunicated 😂

The best of the best is fried fish balls. Used to make hundreds with my mum for Pesach every year. So so so good! 😊

but humdinger, you’re wrong. Homemade gefilte fish, with super strong chrayne and mayo is yummy :)

I'm going to have to take your word for it @EllaDisenchanted as I will definitely not be attempting to make any 😂 I'm a bit of a child and don't really eat much fish, only salmon. In fact, my children are more adventurous when it comes to eating fish than I am. They at least eat sushi whereas I only eat the veggie ones 🙈 I'm a bit of a disgrace.

In the kosher section of most supermarkets you can buy a packet of fried fish balls...I think they're called Mr Freeds...I get mine in Sainsbury's. Honestly if you ever see them, i really recommend them. They are actually amazing! I just eat them cold straight from the packet with ketchup

Humdingerydoo · 04/06/2024 18:12

@Comedycook I've had them, I just really don't like them 🙃 Something about fish just gives me the ick, yet I'll happily eat chopped liver all day long 😂

CloudyAgain · 04/06/2024 18:18

The Litter Tray (cat board) is a lovely place to hang out. I came for the feminism and stayed for the cats.

Humdingerydoo · 04/06/2024 18:52

"I came for the feminism and stayed for the cats." - weirdly profound statement! I like it.

Nodding in agreement over the liver....

DownNative · 04/06/2024 19:34

Seriously, check out the latest sneaking regarder behaviour towards Hamas. The Whataboutery is unreal.

Shows they've no real argument against Hamas being a terrorist organisation.

Even if some couch it as "they are, but....". Always deflection!

It's because it's hard for them to accept that they're actually quite supportive of terrorists. It doesn't add up seeing as they consider themselves lefties and Hamas are obviously about as right-wing as you can get, so they're confused. Plus, they have no idea what they're actually talking about. They have a few soundbites they found on social media and that's enough for them.

There is zero point in taking them seriously.

Humdingerydoo · 04/06/2024 20:20

Oh I give up. In one comment I say let's not expect Muslims to speak out against Hamas, it's not their job, in the next comment someone suggests "international jewry" should put pressure on Israel to release the hostages. I utterly despair.
