How would you pronounce this? Mycah or Meekah? Also would you pronounce the ‘c’ like you would in Chanukah or Chutzpah?

It’s for a cat not a child btw, not that it makes a difference when it comes to how to say it. Thanks.

The only Micah i know is Micah Paris and her name is pronounced meesha.

Since the cat presumably will not need to ever write his name surely you can just pronounce it any way that suits you

Thanks Gingergran. I know some girls called that too. Micah was a prophet in the Bible, so definitely a male name too and I love it. But I don’t trust the online pronounciations. I totally forgot there are a couple of acquaintances who read Hebrew and 2 speak Ivrit. I’ll run it past them.

I don’t want him to feel at a disadvantage by not knowing how he should pronounce his name. He’s had a rough enough time of it by the sounds of it.

I'd say Meekah, as in footballer Micah Richards

Smallyeti · 12/04/2024 11:45

Thanks flisch. I’ll go with that I think. I dare say the cat will just be content with cuddles, nice food and a safe loving home.

The biblical pronunciation is michah with the ch pronounced like in Chanukah and a short mi as opposed to mee

Smallyeti · 12/04/2024 14:23

That is what I wondered. How to pronounce the c. Thanks for clearing that up.

I've known two English boys called Micah, 1 my age, 1 my dc's age, neither Jewish, and both pronounced it My-ka. Both before Micah Paris became known.
