Only one solidarity rally? Why?

I feel frustrated at the fact that there have been so many anti-Israel rallies in the UK, including people chanting "from the river to the sea" and similar, yet there was only one solidarity with Israel rally.

Are we really so scared, my fellow UK Jews?

Shouldn't we be showing more support for Israel?
Sadly I didn't know about the solidarity rally on Sunday, otherwise I'd be going.
What about all the UK Jewish organisations? All I read and hear is about how everyone is afraid.

Pathetic.

There was a march planned for Saturday that would have had thousands of people. I think around 10k people were expected. However the police etc asked organisers to cancel it. They were worried about a big clash between it and the Palestinian one even though in different areas of London.

Basically they know the Jews organisers and their people will listen to safety concerns and stop the march or turn off the screens about hostages. Therefore the police authorities chose to stop the Jews and supporters, rather than even think about stopping the more criminally minded or obnoxious pp stuff. It sucks but apparently we have no choice but to put up with this stuff at the moment.

Oh plus there has been smaller candle lighting and pray events all over the uk to mourn the people killed killed on 7th October. You have to remember this is a time of mourning still.

Thanks @Trulywonderful

That cancelled march was not even organised by Jews.
What happened to StandWithUs? CST? Is StandWithUs even active in the UK? I don't get the feeling they are.

Why has there not been a single anti-Hamas demonstration? It's mind-blowing!!!
The Sunday event had a "bring them home" message and that's good, but sadly not enough.

There is a march organised by the British Friends of Israel on Sunday 19th November I was told

WibbleWobbleFlop · 11/11/2023 08:29

I wouldn't attend a pro-Israel march because I don't support the actions of the Netanyahu and the Israeli government, and my attendance would be misconstrued. I think attending the march to show my support for Israeli civilians would do nothing but make my family a target for hate crime.

I went to the vigil last Sunday. Very safe and very moving. I hope people go to the march this Sunday to show solidarity.

The vigil and the upcoming march are not supporting the Israeli government, they are against anti Semitism.
No idea why you think you’ll be a victim of a hate crime for showing solidarity against racism, unless you support anti Semitism of course.

WibbleWobbleFlop · 23/11/2023 16:35

@GreekDogRescue The question wasn't "would I attend a march against anti-Semitism", it was "shouldn't we be showing more support Israel". Given that I do not support the actions of the Israeli government (but certainly support innocent Israeli citizens caught up in this mess), I feel that being present at a pro-Israel rally would be viewed as pro-Netanyahu. This could absolutely cause trouble.

The reason behind marches have already been twisted by some in the past.
You attend a ‘stop the war’ march and suddenly you hate all Jews
Or you are at a march, you don’t spot amongst the hundreds of thousands of people an inappropriate anti- Semitic banner or Hamas type clothes and suddenly ‘you should know they are there and you are anti - semetic.’…..yes a MN accused someone of this !

We ve read the posts on MN, the internet and in the papers.

People twist you’re good intentions.
