Trust for child

We have a 5 figure sum we are to put in a trust for our child. We’d like it to grow over the 11 years it’s to be in the trust. I don’t know where to start. Any advice? Things I should look for or avoid?

Why are you putting it in a trust?

Why not an JISA/pension?

What will the money be used for?

We are moving it from a trust controlled by a solicitor to one controlled by us

The money will be available to them in 11 years to be used for what they want. We hope for a house but it will be their money.

I would think carefully about what age to make the fund available to them. 18 is too young imo.

Thanks, it won’t be 18, but it’s also not our choice as it’s been left to them. There will be lots of coaching involved!
