What is your largest ever premium bond win?

Just that. I hold the full whack plus extra for my kids and never win more than a few 100 pounds.

Interested to hear from others and whether I should shift my cash!

£50k…honestly.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 29/09/2025 20:50

Something like £850

Lifejigsaw · 29/09/2025 20:56

About 300 but I’ve won £4000 in the three years I’ve had them!

CalzoneOnLegs · 29/09/2025 21:00

Some nice prizes on here 💰

wonderstuff · 29/09/2025 21:03

I don’t think they are a good investment, realistically most people holding PB are subsiding a few people winning. However FIL has bought them for all his GCs and dd won £10k a few years back. I buy lottery tickets and I think you do have to see it as a bit of a lottery. On FB recently someone had a £5 holding that had been in the PB draw since 1963 and had won nothing, so the value of that £5 had obviously significantly dwindled and had it been sensibly invested it probably would have at least kept pace with inflation.

BirdyBedtime · 29/09/2025 21:08

£1200 a few months ago on £27k holdings.

Regularly get £25 or £50. I don't need the interest and like the monthly anticipation

Difference is with PB you don’t lose the money, but you can win! With Lotto once your draw is over the money is gone!

I don't want to derail the thread, but I have a question, if anyone knows the answer?

My dad died in June, and he had some Premium Bonds. I don't know how much. The solicitor is currently dealing with his estate. Will they be able to find out if Dad ever won anything, and would we be able to claim it if so? I don't know much about PBs and the question has only just occurred to me!

CalzoneOnLegs · 29/09/2025 21:16

@MirrorMirror1247 you would probably have to contact NS&I to get that info and it depends how your Dad took any winnings.

my mums wins were always paid by cheque but they stopped that a while back, and now winnings are either reinvested to more bonds up to the max holding, or paid into your bank account (whichever the bond holder chooses)

Sorry for your loss

declutteringmymind · 29/09/2025 21:17

My youngest just won £1000

Edenmum2 · 29/09/2025 21:18

i have a small amount and have never won but my parents have the full whack and win loads every month. They won £1100 last month and consistently win hundreds.

Thank you. I'll mention it to my mum. I don't know what sort of arrangement Dad had for any winnings, but she might.

roycroppersshopper · 29/09/2025 21:23

Max holdings I've ever had is £19k, most I've ever won was £100 when I had about £14k.

flyingsquirrelsagogo · 29/09/2025 21:26

£800. DH and I have full holdings and win something most months. Last month I didn’t win anything for the first time in ages.

Kindling1970 · 29/09/2025 21:29

£150. Have 20k in there. I live in hope after reading that someone who had £100 in won the million.

Judellie · 29/09/2025 21:30

I once won £25 but that's it. Don't have a lot in but was putting £50 a month in except, like others, I have now realised I'm getting more with a stocks and shares ISA anyway, so will probably stop bothering with premium bonds.

Happiestathome · 29/09/2025 21:35

I won £500 on my second draw back in December 2020. I had £25k in at the time. Family have had £500, £1k, £5k. My husband (who got us all into bonds) has yet to have more than a few hundred in 5.5 years.

Yes but inflation means the value of your money is reducing over time.

You don't think premium bonds are a good investment, but you're happy to waste money on lottery tickets? OK... 🙃

Me: £25
My sister: £50k

Wow. Lucky sister.

OnthePisteAgain · 29/09/2025 21:40

£1000 2 months ago. Otherwise average about £200 a month on full holding. Some months nothing

Almost2026 · 29/09/2025 21:41

£100 for us, but in laws won £10k a couple of years ago.

JamDisaster · 29/09/2025 21:42

£500. When I had full holdings I made about half a percent over the average so not too bad.

OP, PBs are good if you have substantial holdings, are a higher or additional rate tax payer and already use any savings allowance. Otherwise you can do better.

Seriously79 · 29/09/2025 21:43

My parents have the full amount each.

They get something most months.

BadActingParsley · 29/09/2025 21:44

£300. Know someone who won £25k. Very happy!
