Hi,

Totally clueless as to whether it makes sense for me to sign up for a life insurance.
I have no properties or mortgage (partner does and he has financial stability should anything happen). I have a career and work almost full time. We have a DC.
Regrettably I have some credit card debt which Im paying off (it's not that much but substantial).
Should I get a life insurance in your opinion?

It’s a personal decision, but you should think of the practical things.

If you died tomorrow, could your partner continue to pay all of the household bills and everything for all bills? If you were no longer here would extra childcare etc be needed which partner cannot do, which may bring an additional cost? Could you partner continue to provide for your child in the same way on only your income? Who would pay off your debts? If your partner needed to take time off work to grieve, could they afford to do this? Funeral costs?

For me unless you have a partner who could finance your household & family perfectly fine on their own long term, with savings to account for funeral, time off work etc, I’d always say it’s worth having life insurance.

@Mrsttcno1 Hi thanks for your reply, that's some good few things to consider.
He would manage, however it would probably deplete his savings and add to the stress, I would also not want my partner or child to pay off my debts so yes, put like that it does make sense. X

Well, debts in your name would be payable by your estate, but they wouldn't be payable by anyone else.

I'm not sure much how much debt you're in - you describe it as both not much and substantial.

Life insurance will be cheaper the younger you are. Do you have any death in service benefit through your workplace?
