Anyone else concerned 1) that the US will stop supporting the Ukrainians and that Russia will take Ukraine and in so doing make other smaller countries more vulnerable like Taiwan to China, etc?

But apart from flinching even more at the news - is anyone concerned about the potential impact upon the stock markets?
Am I overthinking this? Someone talk me down before I cease all pension payments, and just stockpile cash and tinned food in my garage?!

You can't control any of it so why worry. The stock market will be fine in the long term, its survived two world wars and several financials crisis over the past 100 years.

that man terrifies me. I don’t think we can predict the extents to which Trump will mess up.

But yes I know I need to probably get some perspective.

He’s not even the Republican nominee yet never mind President!

There’s a long way to go!

This is very blasé! The 20th century wasn't exactly a cakewalk, was it!?

Yes, the stock market crashes then recovers, in the meantime people lose homes, savings, even go hungry.

I agree, feels very much like we’re at a crossroads, with parallels with the 1930s. If Trump pulls out of NATO then who know what could happen in Europe, etc, it’s very worrying.

Well, give me a suitable alternative candidate from the Republican Party.

There isn't one.

It's an interesting year on the world political stage, that's for sure.

"War inna Babylon". Bob Marley was a prophet.

In what way did he "mess up" when he was president last time ?

To be fair to trump - Putin didn't risk anything because orange man is unpredictable. He stands up to bullies, and never started any conflicts. Biden is a senile oap that's actually starting wars. I doubt Putin will do much with trump in. Worse, Biden would never use a nuke, trump would - that threat being real is the best deterrent. In wartime you need a strong over confident leader not some senile pussy,

I don’t think we ever need Trump. He has no ability to lead because he has no real empathy and isn’t actually that intelligent. His behaviour so far hasn’t been strong leadership, just chaos and easily seen through manipulation. He caused unrest by spreading lies in his own country, I don’t believe he’d ever be able to unite his country during a war.

5thCommandment · 20/01/2024 08:46

Yeah domestically he's a tool but internationally no one will mess with him because he is more likely to use nukes, which would lead to peace, and I say again he never started any wars. None of the recent democrats can say the same, they're generally war mongers.

ChaosAndCrumbs · 20/01/2024 19:18

Hmm. I’m not convinced he won’t if he gets in, but we’ll agree to differ on that. I think he’ll simply do whatever suits him best and if that’s a war, it’s a war and if it’s not, it’s not.
