Help! Confused by Scam

Hi
I'm posting here as I don't know how else I'll get answers. I thought I'd ask the public.
I've recently become aware that a relative has been subject to a scam. I don't think they've taken anything and I'm advising precautionary measures such as speaking to the bank and deleting anything they were told to install.

My question is this, the organisations is Braxton Wealth Mamagement it is a total scam that's clear. However the person involved is adamant they saw this on the Martin Lewis TV Program. I don't believe it for a second. Has anyone heard of this being mentioned on ML? I'm asking for my own sanity.

Thanks

Almost certainly your relative is mistaken. If you google news about the company there is no mention of ML, and if he had recommended them, or indeed warned against investing with them, I would expect to see some reports of this. The priority now is to do as you have suggested, and prevent any money or data being misappropriated. Your relative may want to consider changing the contact details he or she uses for other financial institutions, since, if it is a scam, it's likely that further attempts will follow.

I understand all that and we will ensure that necessary steps are taken. Thank you.

However, I know it isn't something that he endorses but I am trying to establish why he do vehemently insists that he got it off ML.

Martin Lewis has frequently made clear he doesn't do that kind of endorsement because fake ads are often made using his name or image - prob your relative saw one on Facebook etc

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 21/11/2023 21:05

I know. They swear it was the TV show though just wondering if anyone knows whether this company was mentioned perhaps as one to avoid and they weren't paying attention, perhaps. Really don't know.

Tweet him then show your relative his response.

Almost certainly saw a false advert maybe with a link to something that looked as though it was endorsed on the tv show. Easy to make a short video look like a clip from the show.

I don't have Twitter

If he saw it online - on Facebook or something like that it could be an AI version of Martin Lewis.

Try googling. There is lot on Martin Lewis and 'deepfake' AI.

  • Nov 21, 2023 Scam operators You won’t receive your investment profitss* Scam website. BraxtonWM purports to invest your money using AI developed and encouraged by Elon Musk. Your account shows apparent sustained profits. You are encouraged to share your screen (which would give them access to all your computer contents) to deposit currency funds using your credit card, but you are then required to open a crypto account which is supposedly the only way you can be paid out!! Your account shows profit in dollars. When you seek withdraw any of the supposed profit, you need “approval”. Adriana Murrison purports to be an informed and active and helpful account manager based in Zurich. It is a lie and she will seek to pressurise you into handing over money for immediate profit. Even if you get “approval” to withdraw you “profits”, nothing is in fact paid out to you in any fashion, either currency or crypto. Suddenly your Braxton support is no longer available. Your account manager, who dealt with repeatedly and with urgency on WhatsApp claiming to be in Zurich, now declines to answer your messages. All effort by you to get a response , by whatever means, goes unanswered. The website and presentation and patient assistance all appear impressive and show serious effort on their part, but the organisation is neither honest nor trustworthy. Do not give them any money or any time. Read the other 1 star review which totally reflects my experience. Date of experience: November 16, 2023

Saw yesterday’s show where he was talking about savings. He specifically mentioned that he is not authorised to talk about investments so there is no way he could have mentioned any specific investment company.
