what should I do with 300k?

We have around 300k GBP sitting doing very little (saving account, current account, fixed term saving account etc). What should I do to maximise the growth/income from this sum?

For background I am 40yo, have secure job with monthly income after tax of around 11k GBP and I am a British expat in a "low-cost" country. Have DW and DS4. We generally manage to live off DW's salary and only dip into my earnings for large items and holidays etc.

I was wondering about buying a property in the UK, but it would probably make more sense to mortgage that right?

Anyway, looking for ideas. Thanks

I've got all this money and don't know what to do with it. It's a nightmare.
Can anyone help😆😆😆

@CharlieRight Please share what you do to earn 11K/month in a low-income country!! So I can change careers and move wherever you are! When I first started reading your post I thought that you must be in Switzerland or somewhere similar.

If I had 300K I would invest in property and start a business.

You earn 11k per month but are living off your wife's income of 2k per month, is that what you're saying?

They're married so it's irrelevant how they choose to divvy it up, it's all shared money

Please can I ask what you decided to do in the end? how did you invest. Asking because I am in the same boat. Have own house, have a BTL and just have £300k sitting around. I will get round to seeing a financial advisor in the near future, but right now just taking my time in trying to understand what it is I'm trying to achieve (i.e I'm 48, do i want income, or do I want security/assets to build on for the future/what risks am I willing to take etc.)

Wow - good on you OP. Off to see what a metallurgist is and see could DS become one 😂 - I would love to be in your position. I think some people here are forgetting you are choosing to live off 2k out of 13k per month. That’s how you get to save 300k so well done!

If you plan to stay where you are for 5-10 years have you considered buying a property near where you are now?
