where to put £4500?

StillRunningWithScissors · 18/03/2023 20:32

I've reached my ISA limit for the year, and have been fortunate enough to have overpaid mortgage by the allowable amount so wondering where best to save/invest £4500.

Don't need immediate access, but possibly looking to use I for my ISA allowance next year.

Any advice greatly appreciated

Premium Bonds?

nannynick · 18/03/2023 20:39

Park it in current account or savings account. Only a few weeks until the next tax year, when you can pay it into ISA.

Porkandbeans1 · 18/03/2023 20:41

Premium bonds is what we do. Any winnings are tax free.

Porkandbeans1 · 18/03/2023 20:42

I should add that with premium bonds they need to be invested for a whole calendar month.

Addictedtohotbaths · 18/03/2023 20:45

Premium bonds.

Whatever you do, don’t put it with Nest they are dire.

MumOf2workOptions · 18/03/2023 21:46

Premium bonds or natwest have a good savings account offer about 6% but you'd have to gradually filter money in as I think it's capped at 6%

Shamoo · 18/03/2023 21:49

How long are you happy to lock it away for?

Rollinghill · 18/03/2023 21:52

Santander have a savings account at 4%. As you're not looking to lock it away, check money saving expert for best saving rate.

catlovingdoctor · 18/03/2023 22:20

My holiday account 😆

Wordsmith · 18/03/2023 22:38

Keep it in the bank for 2 weeks until tHe start of the next tax year, then put it in your ISA.

My holiday account 😆

LOL you beat me to it

I agree with pp , keep hold of it for a few weeks until the start of the tax year , I dont know anything about premium bonds but that sounds like it might be a good idea too then put any winnings into your isa

StillRunningWithScissors · 19/03/2023 08:17

@catlovingdoctor @ScottBakula @queenofthebongo 😂 unfortunately I have the money available because Barclays closed my ISA account without notification. It's taken four months to get the money back from them. They acknowledge they closed it without notice, but it means I lost the allowance I had for this year🙄

Good call to everyone pointing out that it's only a few weeks away from the tax deadline, my good it still feels a long way off in my head 😂

Think I'll go with that option.

Thank you everyone!!!
