This may be a stupid thing to say but the balance of my pension (aviva) appears to have gone DOWN despite me not doing anything other than putting money IN. Is this normal???

It’s invested in the stock market which has seen a downturn lately! Plus administrator charges, but that wouldn’t account for much.

Yes, mine’s dropped around £4k recently. Pensions are a long term investment so unless you’re very close to retirement don’t panic, it will recover.

Should I keep paying In to it in the short term? I'm early 40's do won't be drawing from it for a while yet but it's so disheartening to see it go down not up.

The way I look at it is surely it's better paying into it when it's dropped as you will get more shares for your money!

Follow pensions on Martin Lewis forum, the one thing that people are told repeatedly is don’t continuously watch your investments, think of them long term and potentially only review the balance and your contributions every five years or so or you get totally obsessed with it.
