Cryptocurrency - what is it? Any real stories?

Hi all
I’ve been looking at crypto this weekend and don’t understand a word of it
Is it easy to demystify?
Anyone have any success stories or horror stories?
My husband works in financial services so we aren’t exactly ignorant around investments but this I’m interested in learning more about

Bought some about 3 years ago (not a full 'coin' but part thereof). An I.T friend advised the safe site to purchase. Also bought ALT coins. Spent $600 so not a massive amount, just to see what it was all about. Last I checked I had made about $400 altogether.

Invest in Bitcoin. It's the long term future. As a person going down the path of life, over the past 18 month Ive gone down the bitcoin rabbit hole. Educate yourself, it's not too late. Check out Michael Saylor, Robert Breadlove & Peter McCormack on the first instance. My very young DS knows what Bitcoin as it will, I believe be his future.
