So I'm about to move my pension to a different company with less fees... but the markets are tumbling due to Coronavirus. Should I hold off?

I take it they won't move in specie (i.e. just move the investments over without selling/rebuying?

The uncertainty is a bugger, and depending on what you hold now in Old Pension and what you plan to invest in in New Pension ... Well some things have a spread (in which case there's a hit anyway if you sell/rebuy) some things not. If you end up rebuying at a somewhat lower price you end up with more of the assert !
But then - is this it - what if it falls more? Well fair question.
How much your pension investments will fetch matters when you use them (or if the company is bought out & taken private) . Have a think about when that would be. What were you planning to do about your pension investments anyway, regardless of wrapper? Set and forget or try to pick good investments at good times? The latter is something even pros fail at fwiw (hello N Woodward!).

Did any of that help provide a new perspective?

Thanks ... yes. Still feeling uncertain. I think I might just leave well alone until things calm down and then move it.

I’m not transferring any client assets at the moment. Far too volatile.

Youhedge · 13/03/2020 14:52

You could be out of the market for 2 weeks

(OP here) - I'm leaving well alone for now, thank you.

We did a disaster scenario with our pension planner a couple of weeks ago and long term were advised to hold tight .
We looked at at 50% loss and 5 years to recover and decided to sit it out And hope for the best but prepare for the worst !
