Trading 212

Long term reader and first time poster. Anyone had any experience of Trading 212. Some mums at the school gate have mentioned it. They are all begging me to sign up to it as we will both get a free share. (HSBC, SHELL, FORD, they have all received) I am interested in investments have a pension, SIPP, ISA etc. So not naive.

but...

Is it a decent platform? Or a cult? I kinda feel like I am been sold Herba Life by them at the moment.

Any thoughts and comments would be much appreciated.

Not used them but have just had a look. To their credit they are putting up risk warnings that 76% of investors lose money when trading, and they try to work out during the application process who is likely to have sufficient knowledge and resources to use their platform to their advantage.

There is no guarantee about the value of the free share, and bearing in mind that it could be worth less than the £5 withdrawal fee that in itself is a gamble. I also can't see what the minimum investment amount is.

I would say that if you want to invest then use your existing products (unless they have ridiculously high charges on them, such as St James Place). Be wary of being sucked in by an introductory gift, and ignore the peer pressure from the other mums..... they will be doing it so that they can claim their free shares, they won't give a toss whether you lose all your investment, not their problem.

Thanks, Sunseed. I think you are right ill stick to my normal investment plan. I may give it go with a £1 to get the free share and cash out after the minimum time. If I get a good one ill sell it and have a nice meal at a restaurant paid for by Trading 212. =D

Just to update - I have downloaded the app. There is a £29 minium investment - For the £29 I bought a few shares in BT, HSBC and BAE Sytems as they are high dividend stocks. Also bought a share in BooHoo.com. I will get my free share tomorrow. I will update further with news of what they allocate.

Nice easy to use interface, im not sure I would invest £1000's on it. But an enjoyable way to gain experience and learn about stocks.

Will probs sell up and shut down in a few weeks.

If anyone does fancy a free share please use referral link below.

Sunseed there aren't any fees if you withdraw to a card. Only for bank transfers. They don't offer 'products' like St James' place - just shares and ETFs.

Have had a free share worth £89 and a few woth between £3 and £15.

Have both accounts to get a bit of free money. Probs made about £150 which has come in handy since covid and hubby not working.

blubberball · 27/05/2020 20:00

I just tried it. I know nothing about this kind of thing, but thought that I'd give it a go. You can try with pretend money at first, and then you can buy fraction of shares. Curious to see how it goes.

I've just registered after reading everyone's post and topped up my account by £10 but not sure how to spend only what I have? this might have been a big mistake for a novice like me :-(

"To their credit they are putting up risk warnings that 76% of investors lose money when trading, and they try to work out during the application process who is likely to have sufficient knowledge and resources to use their platform to their advantage."

These are regulatory requirements, not initiatives that the company has decided to implement by itself!

Sunseed · 26/06/2020 16:34

Yes, but the point I'm making is that they have been quite upfront with the risk warnings rather than burying them in small print.

Mumofmyboys · 01/07/2020 02:19

I have not yet recieved any share as I only registered out of curiosity and I wanted to try other platforms different to the other one I have bigger investment. How ever I am taking it one step at a time no rush.
Feel free to use mine.

Anyone else enjoying using this app??

grumpypug · 30/09/2020 13:42

I'm using it. I'm making a loss on all my investments (and only invested £15 to play with) but I'm hoping things will improve soon.

Mu husband and I invest £1 a day each into 2 different pies. We have a weekly competition to see who has earned the most money!

grumpypug · 30/09/2020 19:58

Are the pies on ISA?

StarcourtMall · 21/11/2020 13:54

I bought some shares a while ago and have made £62 on £141 investment. I didn’t think that was too bad!
