Where to save?

I'm planning a bit of an overhaul of my finances from next month, and have worked out that I could comfortably put away £500 p/m in savings.

I'm stumped as to where to put it though. I dont want anything linked to my current bank(s), and I don't want to be able to have easy access to my savings - it would help me if I had to give notice and go through more of a process than just accessing through online banking.

In addition, I don't know where to begin with good interest rates. I have a Moneybox investment account which is doing well currently, but it's a bit of a volatile way to save!

Can anyone help to point me in the right direction please? It's all so confusing!

Have you been on moneysupermarket, you can find out about all the savings accounts and compare the features

@PattiStanger - I've had a quick look, but I'm hopeless at this sort of stuff. Was hoping someone in the know could give me some slightly more personalised info!

When I look at notice accounts, it comes up with really random non-UK (I think) sounding accounts. That feels risky to me, as I've never heard of most of them?

there are no uk savings accounts paying even half inflation except on small sums. thats it.

you can do a little better with fixed rate bonds but that is no access for the term.
