We are in the process of buying and a company called convey law were recommended to us. Google them,we haven't had any issues at all and they are very well priced too!

Ask estate agent
Ask friends/family
get one out of Yellow Pages

Get a list, get a few quotes and go with the one you think you'll get the best service/cost combination from.

I used to do this work.

Don't ask estate agents (they want someone fast who won't ask too many awkward questions, which is not necessarily what you want)
Don't look in yellow pages (for anything which requires personal service, not just law).

Word of mouth is the best. There is a huge variety in price, levels of service, quality.

Sorry, that's mainly negative advice but it might point you away from some unsuitable people.

TuttiFrutti, word of mouth doesn't guarantee quality. Just that they appeared to be ok! Anyway, it is only practical if you know people who are in a position to recommend.

Do not use the one in Norwich called Allen Rutherford. They have been ignoring our calls and block our numbers, after they took our fees. It has been 7 months and the house buying is going no where. Shame it is too late for us to change solicitor now. The solictor's email is in "txt spech".

Last year they have been investigated by the legal ombudsmen. Check if the solictor has been complained on the Legal Ombudsmen website before using them.
