Aghh help please !!

I opened a 1 year bond at the Yorkshire Bank on 21/12/2011 and it matured 21/12/2012. They sent me a letter but with it been christmas etc and having a young baby I just haven't sorted it. Went to see them today and they told me it has now been put into a second 1 year bond and I won't be able to access it for another year. I wasn't very happy because we are hoping to buy a house later in the year and that was my deposit. I explained this to the lady and she said she would write a letter but couldn't promise anything as it is past the 14 days.
Has anyone any advice to what else I could do ?

You will probably be allowed to withdraw the money however there will be a penalty for doing so. I've seen ones where it's a % of the investment amount, or (most commonly) an interest penalty eg 3 month's interest so if you withdraw before its been invested for 3 months you would lose a bit of the capital.

Personally I'd find out what the penalties are, then if possible leave the money there until a month or 2 before you need it. It should have said on the letter they sent you that you had to let them know within a certain time scale what you wanted to do with the money, and what would happen if you didn't make contact.

Hi all, just wanted to let people know about this so you don't make the same mistake as me.
I contacted Yorkshire Bank and they have refused to give me any access to my money so won't be moving anytime soon. On reading the letter they sent in Dec it does say this but I didn't read it correctly and assumed I would have some access. Lesson learned read all letters.
