If you ran out of eggs, would you use donor eggs?

I currently have a very low rapidly diminishing ovarian reserve. I have a 6 month old but have always wanted two children. However, I don’t know if I will have enough eggs left by the time I’m 18 months postpartum (I had a caesarean so need to wait until then before trying). If you were in this situation, would you use donor eggs or would you stick to the one? If you had no children, would you use donor eggs or remain childless?

Rather than waiting 18 months, could you freeze embryos sooner and then hopefully have them in the freezer to transfer when you’re fully healed?

You dont have to wait 18months for an egg collection, you can go ahead now and do a freeze all cycle.

To be honest no I wouldn’t. More so if I had a child that was biologically mine, I would worry it would cause an issue once the second child found out. Thats just me though. Like others have said I would do an egg collection now and freeze them.

It’s such a personal decision, but after 3 years TTC and 4 rounds of IVF to get my 6 month old, I’d try and make peace with having 1 child rather than use DE for a second. However, when I had no children, our treatment included discussions about when we might want to move to DE so it was something we seriously considered.

Saying that, we also have 2 frozen embryos left to try for a future sibling, so I agree that you should consider doing an EC as soon as you feel up to it and try and get some embryos frozen now for future use. Good luck with whatever you decide!

I have two kids via DE, after 3 failed rounds of own-egg. Clearly the decision we made was to go down that route rather than remain childless and I have zero regrets, they’re no less mine and I’m no less their mum. If we had succeeded with own egg for one I think the decision would have been very different around a second (which we always wanted) - no way to tell you which way it would have panned out but I think it would have been much more complex, particularly considering the inter-sibling dynamic.

It’s what I’m currently doing. Super high AMH but useless quality eggs. Plus male factor issues.
