Does your clinic routinely prescribe antibiotics ahead of transfer?

Does your clinic routinely advise the Alice biopsy or other tests to check for endometritis or do they prescribe antibiotics as a precaution without checking? Or neither? Interested in different approaches taken.

My first rounds were a few years ago and they did an antibiotic cream then as standard without any testing. For my more recent rounds they had stopped that approach as said it wasn’t necessary for the majority of women. I did have Emma and Alice testing after a few failed rounds and all was fine. They weren’t pushy with it, it was more feeling like it was something I could change after doing the same protocol with no success.

@Strawberrryfields thanks. My clinic have essentially said it makes no difference to anything but weighing up whether to test anyway.

Mine weren’t particularly encouraging with it, they felt we probably just hadn’t found the right embryo. But I’m unexplained and it was one of the only things that hadn’t really been tested so they were happy to give it a try. The ERA testing they discouraged as said it can change anyway and if had implantation so skipped that one as part of the trio.

@sirensong my clinic provides them as standard I am also unexplained I do think it’s finding the right embryo and implanting at the right moment I have had 7 failed transfers and am currently 12 weeks, no change to protocol as they could find nothing wrong it ended up being a luck game at my end

@camelinastorm thanks. Which do they prescribe - Doxy? What duration?

Were your 7 tested? Congratulations on 12 week mark!

No my clinic does not prescribe antibiotics for each transfer. I have had antibiotics before a transfer before when I had fluid in my uterus that couldnt be explained so treated it as an infection, it seemed to have cleared up and I had success with implantation but unfortunately that pregnancy didnt end up as a full term pregnancy.

@sirensong yes doxycycline for 3 weeks before transfer.
no they were not tested as we always had a good fertilisation rate and a high rate that got to day 5 testing wasn’t suggested until the last 2 rounds but it’s £1500 for 4 embryos so we decided to just go without testing until we ran out of frozen embryos, if we did another full round we were going to test but we got the positive on the last one, we did transfer the 3 too grades though and only one implanted
