Anyone been pregnant in peri menopause? (Or hoping to be?)

Has anyone got pregnant in peri menopause. How did it affect anything? Did your other peri symptoms stop? Were you on HRT - did this change anything/affect pregnancy? What happened after birth?

Or if you are hoping to and have already have consultations etc, what have the Drs said about all of the above?

Really grateful for any experiences.. my story without wanting to be too outing is I've recently turned 39 and experiencing peri symptoms for about 3/4 weeks - night sweats, hot flushes etc and I don't appear to be coming on my period any time soon, although I don't think I've actually missed one as such (last period ended on 30 Jan) since these night sweats started.

Just had blood tests though and my FSH is sky high (82) and oestrogen low (19) so I think it's peri. I've also had my periods stop/night sweats in 2024 when I was going through a very stressful time and my FSH tested twice - 42 and then 69 but oestrogen was good (Only tested once)- 296. Once the stressful time ended (and I went on a 2 week holiday!) my periods came back and night sweats stopped...praying similar might happen this time but I think less likely..

I'm aware from private testing for egg freezing (thankfully have a few eggs frozen from my age of 35/36) that I have a severely diminished ovarian reserve and I was warned I'd likely go through early meno.

I'm currently single (although dating someone early stages) and although would consider having a baby alone perhaps, I'm not really comfortable with that/there yet so please do not suggest that as an immediate step.

I'm just wondering how things might look if I was to go on HRT and if I'd be able to get pregnant naturally whilst on it.. or if I'd have to use the frozen eggs and how peri symptoms might affect that?

TIA

You would be able to use the frozen eggs in a medicated transfer even if menopausal.

An FSH level of 82 would imply ovulation is no longer happening but it may bounce about a bit. Have you tracked ovulation any cycles?

Thanks for the reply.. this is the strange thing - I have had periods as normal (for me.. so very irregular cycle lengths but noting ovulation each month every single month for the last year and earlier!) I was even attempting embryo freezing with a sperm donor last year (genetic abnormalities so did not continue - but that was with my fresh eggs at 38) so I certainly was ovulating every month I tried! The last month I had an IVF cycle (and ovulated and got an egg that fertilised) it was September!

I was ill (perhaps Covid) over NYE into January - really felt awful for maybe a month but my last period ended 30 Jan.. and then almost immediately the night sweats? I'm so confused :( Hoping maybe the bug messed things up but I agree the numbers are shocking..

I just can't believe it can go from bleeding every month to night sweats and then periods totally stopped. I'm sure the stress of everything isn't helping either - feeling massive pressure as I'm turning 40 this year (although not until Nov!) and maybe all of that is playing a role.

Just hoping that I'll have some periods/ovulation still to come and wondering if others have then got pregnant naturally in this way...

Anyone still ovulating has a chance. Maybe it would be worth going for a scan a few days after you've tracked an LH surge to see if you definitely have. They'll be able to see a corpus luteum.

I started perimenopaus at the age 37. Had embryos created from a cycle i did when I was 35. I had a fet when I started perimenopus, had a baby at 38. While pregnant the peri symptoms stopped and pregnancy symptoms took over. Im now in the very thick of peri at the age of 40 and trying for a baby. So far it hasnt happened. Creating new embryos are tricky now.

How did the peri affect your FET? Or did it not really? I guess you were still regular enough for them to time the FET ok and you weren't on HRT?

So I did a modified natural cycle, so waited for a period like I naturally would which seemed as though it was never going to come and ended up being 12 days overdue which im not regular. Then from day 10 of cycle I had scans and bloods every second day until close to ovulating and once my hormones reached peak, I had a trigger shot to make sure I ovulated and 7 days later I had the fet which stuck. She has just turned 2. Now having to start all over and make embryos again, I am lacking in the egg department and also dont have great quality eggs and also husbands sperm is low so we need icsi, in 2 egg retrieval cycles we have only made 2 embryos , one didnt work and one ended in a mc at 7 weeks. We have started a third cycle but the outcome is a gamble as in we may not get embryos.

Thank you for the reply @Miraclemuma03 I assume you're still having periods then but irregular? I'm panicking that mine might have completely stopped as I'm now on Day 52 with nightsweats every night and nothing :( I can't believe it's gone from monthly (albeit very irregular, but still monthly!) periods for at least a year to night sweats and nothing.. I have another blood test this week and then I guess I'll hear more re next steps for NHS....Good luck with the third cycle x

If anyone else has experience of an IVF cycle when your periods appear to have stopped (so i guess it would one where they give you meds and then implant either a previously frozen embryo or donor embryo etc?) then I would be very grateful for any advice..
