IVF (FET) - shared stories of measuring behind in your EP scans

Hi guys - as the title says, it would be great to share some stories where you were measuring behind in your early pregnancy scans with your IVF bubbas ✨

For context, I had a FET on the 30th of September and got my first faint-ish positive 9dpt which got darker as the days went on. Unfortunately at my 8 week scan, little bubs was only measuring 6 weeks and 1 day but with a heartbeat ❤️‍🩹 my clinic asked me to come back 7 days later which is this Thursday, but to protect my heart because it doesn't look good. I'm also on estrogen and progesterone, so I wouldn't technically know if/when I miscarry as the hormone meds would prevent any bleed from happening. Hence the weekly scans to check the heartbeat.

If anyone has had a similar situation and feels comfortable sharing their story I'd really appreciate it 🙏🏼 I'm not expecting success stories (although they would be great!), did it take awhile to miscarry after receiving this type of news, was the initial scan dates off by a number of days, did your bubba ever 'catch up'? Thank you in advance 🩷

With ivf, if you are more then around 5 days behind on dates then its not really a good outcome, thats the information from my clinic, if hcg is low and slow it means the baby is unable to grow well and eventually stops. Iv had this twice now. First time was back in 2021 and I had a late bfp, slow hcg rise and at my 7 week scan the embryo measured 9 days behind. It eventually stopped growing at 9 weeks and i ended up needing a d&c. The second time was after that miscarriage in 2021 and again I got a late bfp and slower rising hcg and at the 7 week scan i was 5 days behind but that pregnancy progressed and he is now nearly 4yr old..

@Miraclemuma03 - thank you for sharing.

After the d&c did they test for chromosome abnormalities or anything like that? My husband and I don't know whether to push for pgt-a testing in our next round, or to treat this as 'bad luck'.

Sorry also, I don't really know much about d&C's, after that 9 week scan did you have to wait to miscarry naturally or was a d&c planned straight away?

You can for sure have embryos tested before next transfer. But sometimes this just happens even with tested embryos. Not all embryos made are meant to make a baby just like a natural cycle. Its really about finding that one healthy embryo but testing can help with that.

By 10 weeks I still had not showed signs of miscarrying naturally and im known to have retained products so was best for my own personally case to get intervention. I did have the products tested and there wasnt anything significant to find unfortunately.

@Miraclemuma03 - it's so hard to decide what is best for you as a person, as a couple and for your future family isn't it.

I think one of my big concerns is this going on and on when the outcome is inevitably not good. My appointment last week was such a blur but I asked at one point when is any decision made to stop hormone meds etc and the nurse said if/when the heartbeat stops which just feels so awful but I get it.

Thank you for sharing again 🙏🏼

It is unfortunately a long drawn out process only because by some small miracles sometimes the pregnancy progresses and you have to give it the hest chance no matter what the outcome is..
