Any teachers/similar roles who’ve done IVF? How long to take off after Egg Retrieval?

Hello. I’m due to have my egg retrieval tomorrow (Tuesday). On Thursday I have a 6 period day and a parents evening. So a very long day. I am just wondering how people felt after their Egg Retrieval and whether you think from experience I’ll be back up and running for a busy 11 hour day on Thursday… (obviously everyone is different but any personal experiences welcome)

Looking for advice from teachers, nurses, doctors, retail etc etc. Any jobs where you’re on your feet all day and can’t work from home. Did you feel back to normal 48 hours later?

I’m a teacher and I felt totally fine, back in work the next day. It was a relief to not have my lower abdomen bing uncomfortable as it had been in the days leading up to EC! I was at no
risk of OHSS though, I think it may be different if you are.

Not a teacher but I'm on my feet a lot for work and was fine the day after my egg collections

I’m a teacher ; stressful role within a busy secondary school. I took three days off even though I was ok and could have pushed myself self in. iVF is a hard journey and teaching is a hard profession I took the time to give myself some mental breathing space and to make sure I was fully able to have a transfer with a good headspace

Not a teacher but a vet - so on feet all day, stressful job, 14 hour day with commute. Went back in day after and was all ok

Not a teacher; I'm a gardner now and worked in a plant nursery last cycle; on my feet from 9-7 and lifting heavy stuff; it was really no bother. The more difficult bit was before egg collection - because your ovaries swell so much, they recommend you don't do strenuous exercise. I must admit I did still lift things and run around a bit, but less than usual.

I would think if you're just on your feet all day you will be fine.

It might depend on how many eggs they retrieve and how swollen you feel. I had my retrieval on a Friday of a back holiday weekend and needed the 3 day recovery time. I had 18 eggs retrieved and I was sore after.

Thanks so much for your responses! Sounds like I should just see how I go, but useful to hear that it doesn’t sound too bad! Felt pretty sore after my trigger last night and had the busiest day at work while feeling heavy and gross which got me worried that I wouldn’t cope, but this has been helpful thanks all xxx

Good luck! I actually felt worse after the trigger shot/before EC, both times.

Just FWIW - I didn't realise how heavily you can bleed after egg collection, and especially if they can't manage to collect all the eggs (they didn't with one of mine). Absolutely worth knowing!
