IVF whilst starting new job and toddler starts nursery

Hi everyone I’m looking for some advice. I want to book my embryo transfer for my next cycle to try for a second child. I am currently a stay at home mum after being made redundant and I’ve just got a job offer which is great as we need the money. However I don’t know whether it’s best to

  • Delay my embryo transfer until after I start my job and settled my 18 month old into nursery. This means I’ll get more maternity pay if I start work first, but may involve awkward conversations about starting IVF with my employer very shortly after starting my job
  • delay my job start date and focus on doing my embryo transfer date first. This would give me less maternity pay (£5K less overall) but I think this will be less stressful for me. The other big thing is this means my son wouldn’t have started nursery and less likely to get sick - I’m really worried he’s just going to get sick constantly at nursery, I always catch his bugs and I’d have to delay / cancel my IVF cycles

does anyone have experience with a similar situation or have any advice? I’m really torn as I want to start trying for our second child as soon as possible.

thank you so much xoxo

Personally I’d focus on doing your embryo transfer first if you can afford to. You don’t want to have to worry that job stress or getting ill could have been the cause of a FET failure (even though it very likely wouldn’t be, it’s personally the way my mind works- I’d always worry 🙄).

I’m a SAHM too at the moment and I’m grateful that my clinic managed to fit me in during the school holidays for my FET, as my DS seems to catch every bug at preschool - and I could do without him/me catching anything at the moment🤞as personally I find the FET and especially the TWW stressful enough as it is!

Dont stop your life for ivf in my opinion. Your job can earn you more money and can be a stable position for your future for the child you have. You can still do your transfer whilst starting a new job and have nothing change. You dont need rest for your 2ww and continue life as normal after a transfer. Ivf is not stable or a guarantee unfortunely but your job can be.
