Is it common to say weird things under the sedation for egg collection?!

Not even quite there yet and I’ve already got an irrational fear about egg collection. I think it’s from listening to podcasts about fertility and hearing people joke about it! Not about the sedation itself, but saying or doing something bad!

I tend to feel shame really hard and it’s already creeping up on me that I might say something embarrassing - or reveal some secret due to the sedation.

Has this happened to other people - did you say/do anything weird or were you fine? I’m hoping it’s rare but obviously you only hear the stories of when it happens!

Wondering if it’s more like when you’re drunk and say sillier or more honest things than when you’re sober but nothing totally outlandish?

I fell asleep completely, chatted nonsense to DH when I came out but only about the procedure nothing crazy! I wouldn’t worry, you don’t have people very close to your head end and you have an oxygen mask on so no one is talking to you!

Same as above.

I remember confirming my name and feeling the drugs go into my arm like a surging of dizzyness, next memory is my husband and the nurse offering me water afterwards.

You will likely be asleep and then very groggy when you first wake up.. I don’t think it’s normal to be really chatty. Even if you did say something embarrassing to the nurses they will have heard it all before and pay no notice. The sedation some how makes me really emotional so I always burst into tears when I wake up and the nurses don’t really pay me much attention as they just know it’s the drugs and all the hormones lol. They are used to doing multiple egg collections a day so it’s all just normal to them. Nothing you said or did would stand out to them or be something they remembered.

I was really chatty in my first collection and I did say something embarrasing but they must be so used to it and they are barely taking notice as they are concentrating so much. It was just like being a little drunk for me. Its a funny story to tell now :)

I would say they wouldn’t be able to hear you properly unless you were in distress as you’d have a mask on and they are all there to do a job during the egg retrieval such as scanning your ovaries or monitoring your condition while under sedation so I wouldn’t worry too much about it. And then theres a confidentiality element to it too so please don’t stress over it.

I was completely out, just sedation, but asleep. They said it was like general anesthetic but no tube down my throat, I breathe for myself. I came round really quickly and was fairly ‘with it’ too! You’ll be fine, just think of the end goal 💕

I had sedation and wasn't asleep but pretty out of it. The only thing I remember saying was 'oooooh CHOCOLATE!' when the nurse handed me the post-EC biscuits 😆
