Trigger warning: Miscarriage

Hello, I really hope someone in this group can give me a bit of advice please. I’m feeling really confused and lost. I’ve had 5x MC, 2x chemical, and 1x 18 month old son so really anxious about being pregnant again.
Im over from Australia and in the UK for a few months so have been trying to navigate the NHS (I’m British originally). There seems to be really limited support for people like me, or at least I haven’t been able to access it or find it.
I had an ultrasound though at an early pregnancy unit today. We calculated I’d be 6 weeks today, but I only got my first BFP last week so may not be? Anyway the ultrasound has thrown me. I feel so confused.

  • thickened uterus lining consistent with pregnancy
  • no evidence of gestational sac - is it too early maybe?
  • small cystic areas throughout endometrium
  • small area of bleeding inside the uterus
What the heck is going on? Has anyone had this? Has anyone had a scan this early that nothing was seen? What about the cystic areas? I just don’t know where to go or who to ask since I’m overseas, and the NHS is tricky. Appreciate any and all suggestions, please. Thank you so much x

Did you not have a follow up post scan to explain these results? What did the sonographer say?

I had a follow up with a lovely nurse, but she was so vague! She said it could be too early, it could be a miscarriage, and she sort of was gearing me up for the latter so I was sobbing and didn’t think how weird this all is until I got home and read the report.

Nothing can be gained from speculation OP

she was vague because the situation is vague due to being so early

prepare for the latter but remain hopeful, because there is hope.

Hi OP, just for a bit of context usually by around 6 weeks pregnant you would expect to see a gestational sack, yolk sack, fetal pole and heartbeat. However, presuming this is not an IVF pregnancy then you can’t know exactly when you’re 6 weeks pregnant as, even with LH testing, you can’t know exactly when fertilisation and implantation occurred. This will be the reason the nurse was vague because it’s so borderline that it could just be you ovulated later than you think and everything is fine, or that actually it is not a viable pregnancy. Unfortunately, 6 weeks is truly the borderline week for all of this.

Sorry you’re going through this uncertainty. It’s really not very nice, you could get another scan next week and that would likely tell you more conclusively.

Sorry for the confusion but if you only got a positive test last week and possibly late for a period you maybe only 4 weeks pregnant and will not see any sort of sack or yolk, or any evidence of a potential pregnany this is probably why the nurse was vague. Best thing to do is get a beta hcg done a couple of days apart to see if its doubling and then wait until your around 7 weeks and you can get a better viability scan done where you should see everything better.

How are you doing Op?
