Have I just ruined my ivf with... caviar??????

I feel so stupid and just hate myself right now. So, have a FET coming up this Friday.

Have been feeling pretty rough on meds with headaches and nausea.

I was planning to go to London to see a play tomorrow but with the headaches I thought it wasn't going to be possible so decided to cheer myself up and instead to get myself an indulgent meal. This was supposed to be a treat in the run up to FET. Bought some trout caviar at Sainsbury's. Ate the whole lot. It was lovely.

5 hours later - projectile vomitting.

What a stupid thing to do. I completely forgot this was the reason to stay off raw fish when pregnant ... but I just didn't think it though! As I am not pregnant yet it just didn't register that I should avoid it in my brain.

Who knows what kind of bug I've got now. Feel like an absolute idiot.

I don't think your vomiting was due to caviar... You said you felt nauseous before eating a meal. I'm sorry you feel unwell. Ring the clinic tomorrow to ask for the advice.

Thank you. Maybe. I worry it isn't though as this is my 4th FET and I never had vomitting before.

Just worried about listeria etc as this isn't compatible with pregnancy. Waiting for 111 to call me back but this is hardly any sort of emergency so not even sure who can help with this sort of thing

Hi OP, before my last FET I asked about this with my clinic as I wanted to go out for an anniversary dinner. Their response below:

Q. Can I please double check on what I cannot do 2 days pre-transfer? Specifically can I go to a spa and can I have raw fish (e.g. sushi/oysters) or do I need to avoid these even before the embryo is transferred?

A. Avoid spa treatments such as hot saunas etc but everything else is okay.
Sushi etc fine prior to transfer but avoid afterwards. Clinically it is hard to establish what you should and should not do ahead of transfer but we usually advise to treat yourself as though you are pregnant afterwards.

good luck with the transfer!

Thank you! I will give them a call tomorrow.
I actually just realised that the caviar was actually pasteurised. So slightly less worried now though still don't know what caused the vomitting. The jar lid was tightly on but didn't pop when I opened it, but it's not one of those that has the pop button in the middle. Anyway... thanks for your response! I really appreciate it xx

Just thought I'd update. GP said that listeria unlikely but sounds like it was another foodbourne bug (couldn't remember the name) that is commonly found in raw fish. I haven't vomitted again since 5pm yesterday and no other symptoms except for a very unpleasant headache.

The ivf clinic were not very helpful. All they said is to see how I am tomorrow and if I am no better they will consult the doctor

We have had our FET on 13 June. It was an emotionally difficult transfer as I have a lot of unresolved trauma from my previous pregnancy and it all just vanished when I heard thst my 3BC thawed well ans was regraded 4BB. I knew it was meant to be and wanted it to work more than I expected.

It is now 15 days post transfer. I have a dark and nice clear blue. But the digital is stuck on 1-2 weeks. The easy@home are not showing progression either. Here it's 2 days ago (top), this morning (bottom).

Our clinic doesn't usually do hcg bloods but I think I should probably request it. However I just feel like it will only be to confirm that this is unlikely to be a viable pregnancy.

I guess it's really unlikely that easy at home is wrong, yeah?
