Mysterious vanishing fibroid meant we missed a month TTC

Hi all. A bit frustrated but also relieved and wanted to vent

TL;DR: Docs thought I had a fibroid so I skipped my letrozole this month with a view of having surgery, turns out there is no fibroid

Last month was my first on letrozole so I went for a scan on day 14, no follicles.

Scan day 21 showed a great juicy follicle but also a giant submucosal fibroid that popped up out of nowhere, distorting my womb.

They said if you don’t get pregnant this month we’ll need to get you in for a rescan and explore surgical options as the fibroid is large, could cause miscarriage and has appeared quickly.

Had a blood test to confirm I ovulated, but sadly it wasn’t our month and my period came.

Had my rescan with the consultant today… and there is no fibroid. Nothing!! Not even a tiny one!? She was so baffled as to what the previous sonographer had seen because my womb looks perfectly normal 🤯

Now obviously I’m super relieved, but I’m also a teeeeeeny bit annoyed because I didn’t take letrozole this cycle because of the risk of miscarriage with a fibroid.

I now have to wait 5 weeks for my period to not come so they can prescribe me provera so I can start my next cycle 🙄

If anyone has any great stories about ovulating naturally a cycle after letrozole I’d love to hear 🥲 or equally has anyone had this happen??!

Wow! That is really frustrating and I'm sorry you missed a chance at conceiving. When I was going for ivf with my now 14mth old duaghter, on my day 10 scan a lump on my uterus appeared and it was a reasonable size, wasn't there on my day 8 scan, on my day 12 scan it was still there but no one could work out what it was. I was given 2 choices, go ahead with egg retrieval but cancel that months transfer or follow through with the fresh transfer and i chose to go through with it. That transfer was successful and I don't know when the lump disappeared but it wasn't there at my 7 week scan. Still to this day we have no idea what it was or where it went.

@Miraclemuma03 Woah actually sounds so similar, what a mystery! Huge congrats on your daughter, such a sliding doors moment but amazing that you decided to go through with the transfer 🙏

The sonographer did say mine could have been a shadow but in your case surely that shadow wouldn’t appear twice?

It definitely was not a shadow, it was a lump as clear as day, very noticeable, the images went through all the doctors and nurses and no one could figure it out. Surely for you one sonographer didnt get it so wrong. Are you able now to ttc again?

@Miraclemuma03 Honestly the human body is mad isn’t it, the fact all those doctors couldn’t figure it out!

Yeah we’re able to TTC again now which is great, but as I’ve just had a period I have to wait 6 weeks until I can get a prescription for provera to start my period/cycle off again which is annoying! I don’t ovulate on my own so I guess it will be May next time I actually ovulate, fingers crossed it leads to something 🤞

@Readyforroots that must feel like such a long time to wait. Fingers xd something happens and your ttc is successful.

Just to update and close off the thread - somehow we conceived naturally on the cycle without medication, and I’m now 7 months pregnant 🥹 the female body is INSANE 💖
