What is the impact of flu and fever on egg retrieval?

I’ve only got a mild fever 37.5 C, which I didn’t have yesterday at my appointment. I asked my doc if cold / flu (not sure which I have) would impact egg retrieval and he said it wouldn’t, as long as I didn’t have a fever. Today I developed a fever of 37.5, egg retrieval is next week. How would it impact egg retrieval? Just hospital policy to cancel it for their own safety or does it actually impact the eggs or anaesthetic or something else?

Hi OP, sorry to hear you had a fever.

I believe that a fever can impact your egg quality, e.g. study here: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23072616/

Nevertheless, there is also a reason the hospital would cancel due to spread of infection. I would be devastated if I had a failed transfer or egg collection due to a fever meaning it didn’t implant/poor eggs and that was given to me by another woman in the IVF clinic who chose to ignore the rules! IVF is a really difficult journey for every woman please don’t jeopardise both your and others journey.

good luck with your journey.
