Poor fertilisation rate - what are my blastocyst chances?

Hi all, hoping to hear some of your stories to help set expectations. I am 32 with tubal factor and have been TTC for 2 years.

1st cycle of IVF (150 Menopur) 8 eggs collected, 6 mature, 2 fertilised. Transferred both on day 3 (NHS policy or they would be discarded) - transfer failed.

DNA fragmentation tests came back clear, no MFI otherwise.

2nd cycle of IVF (225 Meriofert) 12 eggs collected, 10 mature, 3 fertilised.

Day 3 update:
1 x 8 cells - grade 1
1 x 7 cells - grade 2
1 x 4 cells

How many of your 8 cells made it to day 5? What was your attrition rate between day 3 and 5? I’ve seen 30-50% mostly so fingers crossed I will have one to transfer, although I was hoping for one or two in the freezer this time…

Thanks in advance

Hi @Marney12sorry to hear about your numbers.. it is 30-50% at each stage from fertilisation to day 5. The sperm takes over from day 3 so you might want to consider MACS + ICSI next round.

You are still young and under 35 (better eggs) so hang in there and keep trying 🍀

Updating this thread for anyone who comes across it in the future as one of our embryos did actually make it to day 5!

We had a fresh transfer this morning - it was classed as an “early blastocyst” when we got the call from the embryologist first thing but by the time we did the transfer it was a 4AB.

And now the waiting game!

We had 5 eggs collected but only one made it to day 3. It was transferred on day 3 and now 27 weeks pregnant with that one fertilised egg we got.
